Is south park in san diego a good area for a small family?

i im planning to relocate to san diego and i have 2 teens one 17 and the other 19 and they both like city living but i was wondering if it was a safe area and if it is close to a lot of shops and restaurants. Is south park in san diego a good area for a small family?
These guys that are telling you South Park is not that great are on people that must not live in or near San Diego. South Park is safe and nice, their are nicer areas sure but S.P. is fine. It might be near not so great parts, but what area isn't. It is also next to one of the most affluent area's of the city (Burlingame). The guy that tells you to live north of the 8, says that same thing every time, he must not like urban living. North of the 8 is fine is you want to live in suburban cookie cutter crap, with long commute times. I live in Kensington, in the heart of San Diego, ask him where he lives. Living in the more urban areas of San Diego is great, you can walk to restaurants, shops, grocery stores, plus short commute time to any area of the city. You can choose to live blandly in the suburbs or get some culture and live in the city.
It's not that great of an area although there are a few pockets that are nice. It's really close to some really bad areas.

In general live north of I-8 and west of I-805. Look for something in PB or Clairemont.

Here is a quick summary of some of the areas in the city of San Diego. La Jolla and Scripps Ranch are upscale and wealthy. The nice middle class areas of town are Pacific Beach, Tierrasanta, Clairemont, University City, and Mira Mesa. Pacific Beach is a mixture of apartments with college students and young professionals, and single family homes. If you can afford it, it's one of the best places to live in the city. University City is near La Jolla and UCSD and is mostly upscale professionals. Clairemont is middle class single family homes and has a lot of military families living there. Mira Mesa has a large Asian population. Hillcrest and North Park is the center of the gay community. Mission Valley is young professionals and almost all condos. Ocean Beach is a lot of druggies, hippies, and beach bums. Mission Beach is the seasonal rental party animal types. Point Loma is a lot of retired military. The College Area is near San Diego State on the eastern edge of the city. Linda Vista is lower middle class and ethnically mixed. Is south park in san diego a good area for a small family?
South Park appears to be OK. Here's a link to the crime statistics of the San Diego Police Department. South Park looks good on paper.

yes

South Park is one of the best neighborhoods in San Diego.

it's Safe and Fun and close to a lot of good stuff.

also good :

Golden Hill

North Park (south of University)

Hillcrest

Bankers Hill

Kensington

University Heights

I have three teenage boys and they really love living in this part of town.

We have lived in University City and Clairemont and those two areas don't even come close to how nice South Park is.

Schools are an issue ! (the public schools in those areas are to be avoided)

note : we would have been willing to live in Pacific Beach if we could have found a home for a family of five at a price we could afford.
