Taco Bell is not mexican food! hahahaa....and Lolitas is very good but it is more like a fast food place... but anyway...I really like El Torito's ...it is a very nice restaurant ... there's quite a few... there's one on E st. down the I-5 south... there's one in La Jolla... and there's also a restaurant called On the Border in Mission Valley that seems to be very good ... there's is also this very good new restaurant in Shops at Las Americas... the outlet center right before getting to the Mexico border...the restaurant is called Achiote which is owned by a very famous restaurant in Tijuana... and of course if you wanna try REAL authentic Mexican food... nothing beats crossing the border and going down to Tijuana ( I recommend La Espada?a)...you wont regret it... after all it is only minutes away from San Diego...hope I helpedWhat is the best Mexican restaurant in San Diego?
Taco Bell
Hamburguesa in Old Town. Hard to park but it's worth it.What is the best Mexican restaurant in San Diego?
Casa De Pico..!

They used to be in old town but moved last year to Grossmont center. OMG I love this place.. They have won many awards for their food and i like that they freshly make ALL the tortillas in the front of the resturant. You can buy packs of fresh tortillas too.. I swear just try em.
I found this on a site:

Best Mexican Restaurant**

So many cocinas, so few meals. San Diego offers plenty of great Mexican comida, and technically Robert Villarreal’s Mother’s Kitchen is not a restaurant. However, we received so many nominations for Mary Villarreal’s place in Chula Vista we had to ask: What’s cookin’? Chile Colorado and steaming lengua, with taste buds intact.

We’ll stick with Candelas in the Gaslamp Quarter, El Zerape in University Heights, Ranchos Cocina in Ocean Beach and North Park, Los Quatros Milpas in Barrio Logan where “half the city staff is at 10 a.m.,” La Nena in Chula Vista, Rubio’s anywhere, Antonio’s Mexican Food on Sixth Avenue in Downtown, Miguel’s from Mike Morton’s Brigantine family, and Tacos El Gordo in National City, Chula Vista and Tijuana. Pass the lard! Tres cervezas anyone?

The powerful public relations machine in Old Town, causing the nominations of El Agave, El Fandango, Casa de Bandini, Acapulco and Casa Guadalajara, ought to get a clue. “If you want real Mexican food, don’t waste your time going to Old Town,” says National City Mayor Nick Inzunza. “Come to Highland Avenue. We’ll fix you up.”

I have heard Los Quatros Milpas is to die for. I live in East County which is like 30 minutes away but we love a little place called Mariettas. It is on the corner of Mission Gorge and Carlton Hills Blvd. We go every Thursday for lunch. They have the town's best salsa...my judgement of a good Mexican Restaurant.

Here's the address:

Good Luck!

For "Fast food" Mexican Style...Sombreros is the best. They make awesome breakfast burritos...eggs, cheese, potatoes and bacon...again I smother it in salsa. Also their Chile Relleno Burrito is heavenly...I ask for the mole sauce on the inside only otherwise they pour it all over the outside of your burrito.

Here's Sombrero's site:

I've got a great place for you. It's called Jalisco Cafe. There's one in Bonita and another in Imperial Beach. The one in Bonita is a little nicer, but they're both small family owned restaurants with awesome food for a great price. The chips and salsa are super and it's as good as you can get without going into Mexico. Enjoy and Bon Appetite!
Have you tried "El Fandango" (in Old Town)? I don't know as it is THE "best" but if you haven't tried it yet, try it. At the very least, it's close by (you). I've never ordered their Mexican dishes there as yet, even though it's a Mexican restaurant. We usually go there once a year (as it's NOT "around the corner" from where we live (unfortunately)), for a "traditional" Thanksgiving dinner, complete w/mashed potatoes %26amp; gravy, stuffing, veggies, %26amp; cranberry sauce, which is all just "great". They serve from the whole turkey, right beside your table, and wrap up what's left over in aluminum foil and artistically make it to look like a turkey for you to take home. I really love this because when you can take the rest of what's left over from a/your whole turkey home, it's almost like cooking it yourself (without all the muss, fuss, and work) and you can still have it for more dinners (just need to provide your own sides though, which is the easy part); make your own turkey sandwiches, or even turkey soup (all of which I've done), and/or freeze it to use later! It may seem "pricey", but when you take into consideration that you are able to extend that turkey dinner as long as you can %26amp; as many "ways" as you can/do, to me it's quite worth it. We have only "seen" other customers' plates of Mexican food they ordered there at El Fandango, and they too, look very good . . . will (we) have to try their Mexican dishes too, one of these days . . . Good luck and happy eating!

P.S. - At least now you know of a good place to eat for a great Thanksgiving dinner! If you ever do go there for a Thanksgiving dinner, I recommend you make "reservations" (especially now that a "million" other people know about it(!) . . . (feel like I should get a "commission" from El Fandango's now for promoting their restaurant . . . oh well . . .).
