What are some really good restaurants in San Diego?

My family is trying to pick out a place now before my graduation...what is a good place for a celebration like that with family and a few fellow classmates?

Only local places in San Diego, CA. please. What are some really good restaurants in San Diego?
I can think of two wonderful places, depending on how much you want to spend.

First, The C-Level lounge, which is on Harbor Island Drive near the airport normally does not take reservations, but it will for a large group. They have lovely outdoor seating (with heat lamps), with an incredible view of the city and the bay. The food is also incredible. I love the spinach salad with spicy shrimp and goat cheese on top. At the other end of the hunger spectrum is the lobster-truffle mac-n-cheese, a favorite of anyone who does NOT need to lose weight! The prices for most salads (with meat or fish toppings) is around $14, and the mac-n-cheese, I think, is around $17. You CAN spend more, but most things are in this range. The drinks ARE expensive.

A little less pricey is "World Famous" on Mission Beach, RIGHT on the beach. They do take reservations, and I'm sure with enough notice you can arrange a table with a great view. Make sure to share the nut-crusted brie appetizer. Salads, sandwiches, pastas are probably in the $10-$15 range.
I love Phil's BBQ they are the absolute best when it comes to family, fun, celebrations and food that is finger licking good.. :)

When I am looking for a good restaurant, I search on the internet. One of my favorite tools is chowhound.com. You can search for local listings in your city, as well as for vegetarian or vegetarian friendly websites.

There are many different foodie websites, and you can get honest feedback by regular people who actually eat there. This can be much better than a restaurant review, which can be one sided...

When we are listing a restaurant for sale, this is where we look to see what people are "really" saying about a restaurant!

If you want to keep it casual here are some suggestions:

1) Buca di BEPPO (located in downtown 6th avenue and in Mira mesa.. is good as the plates are huge and fairly good for a group. http://www.bucadibeppo.com/

2) Phil's BBQ (as mentioned above) is really good and is located in Sports Arena. http://www.philsbbq.net/

3) Casa Guadalajara in Old town: http://bazaardelmundo.com/guad2006.shtml

I hope these help.
