We are visiting San Diego soon (without the kids!) so we are looking for some really great restaurants. Maybe something different than all the usual franchises that can be found everywhere.
Also, if you are willing to help, what kind of fun things can we do, besides all the family friendly things like the Zoo, Sea World, etc. We want to experience San Diego from an adult perspective this time.Great Restaurants In San Diego?
If you want a huge selection of really nice unique restaurants, head to the Gaslamp District in downtown. Most of the nice places are on 5th st. there are also places on 4th and 6th st. My wife and I love the food at Croce's, it's a fun atmoshphere and they usually have live music. If your into Sushi there's a really fun place called Mr. Tiki's Mai Tai Lounge, awesome food, good drinks, fun atmosphere. Jimmy Love's is cool The Bitter end is good the Whiskey girl, Confidential, honestly there's so many places I can't even think of them all right now, just go down there and walk around and check out the menus, We've never been dissapointed. After dinner you should go to a place called Altitude, It's located on the roof of the Marriot hotel on 6th st., it's a really cool bar with a beautiful view of San Diego bay, Coronado and Petco Park, there's also a place called Jbar that's really cool. if you don't mind paying a cover charge check out Stingaree or On Broadway, for a cool nightlife scene. Also a cool place is the W hotel, they have a cool lounge area called the beach which is covered in sand (no cover). If your looking for something to do during the day, go down to Seaport Village and have lunch at one of the restaurants near the water, I reccomend Busters beach house, theres some fun shops and stuff down there too. After 3 p.m. you can go check out the top of the Hyatt for an awesome view of downtown, another fun thing to do is take a Hornblower harbor cruise or take the ferry over to Coronado and rent some bikes to ride around. You should also check out little Italy, it's a fun little Italian themed neighborhood in downtown. Have fun!
Phil's BBQ in the Sports Arena area or Pat and Oscar's in the Stadium area. Both are Fabulous and Inexpensive. Sorry-Those wouldn't be considered really great restaurants, just great food. Try La Jolla-There are some rooftop restaurants there that overlook the ocean. Also a few on Coronado that have great ambiance and won't break the bank.Great Restaurants In San Diego?

I love Charlies by the Sea in Cardiff. It is expensive, but great.
The most amazing restaurant in San Diego is Rei Do Gado.

You'll thank me later.
It's downtown, so you can experience all the nightlife the Gaslamp area has to offer right after. The Shout House, further down the street, has dueling pianos (they take requests) and decent prices on drinks considering the area.
As far as activities, I would just lounge around carefree on the beach. You don't have the kids, ENJOY IT! At night, take in a stage show or a concert. People always say they can do that stuff at home, but can you really?
The Marine Room in La Jolla is great.

Besides all the other places listed, try going to Pacific Beach to party for the night. It is a great party town with a motel right on Crystal Pier.
The Gas lamp area is a great place for adults. It has great restaurants, clubs, and shopping. Balboa park also has some good restaurants and museums.
You have to try Rubio's - they are a big Mexican food chain now but still so good! Also Chin's Szechwan has a bunch of locations too, but a really good Chinese place. Since you didn't say what part of SD you will be going to, I wanted to suggest places that have various locations.
