Traveling to San Diego... Whats fun for 22 yr old girls to do ?

My friends and I are going to san diego and would like to know of some good club spots where we won't have to wait in line all night and some cool things to do during the say, can anyone recommend sites, restaurants, clubs, etc for us to go do for four days ?Traveling to San Diego... Whats fun for 22 yr old girls to do ?
I would hit up the gaslamp district in downtown San Diego. There are some great restaurants and clubs within walking distance there. If its warm out...check out pacific beach or the mission beach area. Great walk up bars and warm water beaches.
Pacific Beach is a fun area for young single women. There are lots of things going on in the area....nightclubs, beach activities, and restaurants....plus you are right by the ocean. You can join in a beach volleyball game with other people your age, rent rollerblades or bikes and explore the area, or simply sunbathe during the day.Traveling to San Diego... You might want to see who is playing at the "Belly Up" tavern in Solona Beach (small costal town just north of San Diego).

See www.bellyup.com
gas lamp district,

balboa park (day stuff)

la jolla (killer restaurants)

Hill Crest, I hear the gay bars/clubs are better then the straight bars..

Pacific Beach for that "stereotypical" day at the beach..
Honestly, the best thing to do is just go to a fun neighborhood and walk around until you find somewhere that looks interesting to you... I would start out with just going to the Gaslamp District beacuse it has the most nightlife, it's very safe and you won't feel threatened there at all... Pacific Beach (PB) if you are more on the wild side.
I know this may sound childish but the zoo is awesome.
you could go to a club they have a lot of good ones there
what you can do is go on the Internet to find the hot night clubs, but if you go to downtown San Diego they have a lot of nice place to go out and have fun.try to find where the navy men hang out. go shopping during the day there is a lot to do you just have to do the research on the Internet to find out whats going on out there when you are suppose to arrive and then you can take it from there. have fun and be careful.
Dick's Last Resort in the Gaslamp District is an interesting place to eat. They are famed for insulting their customers...all in fun. I had a great chicken caesar salad there the other night (I am in San Diego for work right now).

Old Town is fun, too. Apparently they have a Ghost Tour in the evenings. This is the best place to find authentic Mexican food...although I am fond of the Americanized Mexican food!

There is also a trolley that takes you all around San Diego. You can get on and off all day as you like.

BYOB (Liquor Not Wine) In San Diego, CA?

Hey Guys having a hard time finding a BYOB in San Diego. I mean Liquor (I want to take an Absinthe bottle, not the illegal kind). All I've come up with is restaurants that charge corkage for wine... I know hard liquor BYOBs such as accepting 750ml vodka bottles are present in most every major metropolitan city. Help Plz??BYOB (Liquor Not Wine) In San Diego, CA?

If you like hanging out, talking at a coffee house/bookstore......the Upstart Crow is inside Seaport Village, dowtown San Diego. You can also walk by the water side, towards the back of the Convention Center where you can chill.
Ocean Beach is a great place for a date. There are all kinds of things to do down Newport Avenue. There are shops, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, ice-cream parlor. You can have dinner, then play some pool and afterwards, you can walk to end of Newport Avenue, where the pier is. Grab a coffee or ice-cream and take a walk down the pier for the end of a great date.
walking around seaport village and dinner in gaslamp district is always fun. If you like the bar scene jbar in hotel solamar and altitude on the roof of the gaslamp marriott have great views and cool atmospheres
This will work if you're old enough to drink:

Go down to Ocean Beach, drive all the way out Newport Avenue, and park. Go into the South Beach Bar %26amp; Grill for a beer and the BEST Grilled Mahi Tacos in the world! Then, take a walk way out the pier, or along the boardwalk, or just around OB - it's such a nice eclectic area.

If you're younger than that, how about the Corvette diner up in Hillcrest, followed by one of the more unusual movies at the theater just across the street.
I dont know of any places in san diego but there is this place in la

OLVERA street it is across the street from the unuion train station
There is so much to enjoy in SD! I highly recommend getting a day pass for Balboa Park to enjoy the museums. Then there is Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma if you enjoy unspoiled landscape along the ocean...great spot for photos! Old Town San Diego is a nice place to go too. Lots of great restaurants, historic areas, and shopping. Seaport Village is always a nice visit too. You can check out signonsandiego.com for local events as well. One thing I always enjoyed was checking out the seals at the children's pool in La Jolla. There are plenty of great lunch and dinner spots there as well. If you like live music, check out Coyote's in Carlsbad. It is in "the village" of Carlsbad off Grand Ave. Great place for southwest cuisine, live music, and great drinks. There is also a great coffee place in Carlsbad called Cafe Elise. They have some amazing desserts! Both the Coyote (not to be confused with Coyote Bar and Grill in Old Town) and Cafe Elise have multiple fire pits on their outdoor patios to keep warm while enjoying the outdoors. Of course, from December till April there are whale watching trips out of San Diego too. Oh yes...I almost forgot...if you want to spend a weekend or an overnight somewhere, take the boat to Catalina Island! It's a lovely escape from the city. Quaint, quiet, sightseeing tours, good places to eat. Very romantic!

I hope this helps! Enjoy!!!
San Diego is such a beautiful places with a lot to do. A lot of people think about Old Town when they hear San Diego. There`s a bunch of places to go, and visit. It`s a tourist attraction, but it`s fun. They have excellent mexican restaurants, there`s one mexican restaurant (i forgot the name..) but it`s so good! it`s not like mexican-american food, it`s real mexican food! and the place looks beautiful. and balboa park is good to visit too. Since California is mostly known for it`s beaches, La Jolla Shores is beautiful, and it`s not super crowded a lot of the time. if you like doing a tourist kind of thing, and you`re into religious stuff. you should go to san diego mission de alcala, it`s california`s first mission. the art museum in balboa park is nice. umm, walking through mira mesa is nice. that one mira mesa mall (but not THE mira mesa mall) but the mira mesa parkway is nice to shop at, there`s a movie theatre, pat%26amp;oscars, islands, pier1 imports, ross, old navy, barnes%26amp;noble, buca di beppo, bath%26amp;body works, and other stores. buca di beppo is GOOD italian food. i highly recommend it. i think la jolla village square is nice too to shop, but since your in la jolla, you might as well go to utc, great mall. okay, so i know it`s not much of 'date ideas' but hope this helps!

Drive to Ocean Beach

Walk down Newport to "Hodad's" for awesome burgers and fries, or pick up Mexican Food at Nico's, or BBQ across from Hodads.

Walk out onto the pier, to the very end, and look all the way to La Jolla and Sunset Cliffs on a clear day.

Stop to talk with at least one fisherman on the way, and ask him if he will teach you how to bait a hook.

Look down at the surfers in the water...maybe you should bring your camera for lasting memories.

Stop at Bud's Ice Cream on the way back on Newport, then go to Pacific Shores Lounge, the best dive bar in the world (with Mermaids on the wall and flourescent paint!)

My father met my step mother there in 1954! I was 18 months old, and my mother had left four kids with Dad.

They (Dad and Step Mom) remained married till the day she died in 1986.
1. Watch the fireworks from Sea World while enjoying an intimate bonfire on a San Diego beach.

2. Share a spectacular sunset with the person you love.

3. Take an evening kayak journey under the stars.

4. Bicycle along the coast.

While I was living in San Diego, I enjoyed Extraordinary Desserts. http://www.extraordinarydesserts.com/
Pacifica Del Mar Restaurant in Del Mar, California. Awesome food and amazing view.
Old Town in San Diego is a great idea for a date! There are restaurants there as well as shops and stuff. The whole place is a historical landmark here in San Diego.

Also try Balboa Park. It has several museums and on Sundays, the International Cottages open up and give people samples of international goodies (the organ pavillion opens up on Sundays, too I believe).

There are lots of places to do dates. The San Diego Zoo is located right next to Balboa Park. There's also Sea World, the San Diego Wild Animal Park in Escondido, and a few surrounding shopping malls too.
Art galleries and museums. There are about a million of them, for whatever your taste is. Check the listings in the Reader or CityBeat for the best bets each weekend. Generally gallery openings are free, and often they are full-out events with live music, food, etc. Try Ray at Night in North Park, the second Sat. of each month, Kettner Nights in Little Italy, Culture %26amp; Cocktails at the SD Museum of Art, the A List at the Athenaeum... there are so many!! Some also have film nights, like the Museum of Photographic Art and MCA.
Hey Mali, I'm just finishing a rework of my website to focus on local date ideas around San Diego. Take a look, there are 100+ ideas in the database already with photos, driving directions, costs, and anything else you need to do them.
Go to Balboa park. You can eat at one of the restaurants there, go to the rose gardens, hit up a museum or catch an IMAX movie or play at the Old Globe.

  • Valentines day in San Diego?

My boyfriend and I are broke but still want to do something special on Valentine's day. Any suggestions of restaurants that won't be upping their prices and things we can do in San Diego that would be special but won't break the bank?

    Thanks.Valentines day in San Diego?

My fiance and I live in Coronado and this Valentine's Day we were going to have lunch on the beach. Now that the forecast mentions showers, we are going to go out to brunch and then make Valentine's cookies together. Nothing big, but that's the kind of thing we enjoy.

Because of the weather, I suggest something indoors. Dinner and a movie is simple and not too expensive if you're splitting the cost. He can pay for dinner, you for the movie. Skip presents this year, who needs chocolates? I suggest going to Horton Plaza and catching a movie and there are many restaurant choices in the Gaslamp, including Rockbottom, Sushi Deli and the Hard Rock.
Have a picnic at Mission bay; thats always my favorite thing to do.

Why do I hate San Diego with a passion?

    Could it be because:

    - Provincial, backwards, jingost "natives"

    - Boring, unchanging weather

    - More expensive than San Francisco

    - Salaries are some of the lowest in the nation

    - Rude, self-centered, superficial people

    - Total absense of culture and music scene

    - Racist minutemen who want to build a huge wall between U.S. and Mexico

    - Traffic as bad as Los Angeles

    - Crappy restaurants

    - Too many brainless theme parks

    - Ugly, dry landscape

    - Stupid pastimes like "Over the Line"

    - Complete lack of character or communityWhy do I hate San Diego with a passion?
    I understand you.

I moved here three month ago and i have realized that San Diego is LAME!

I can't wait to get out of this weird city!
I visited 8 years ago. I didn't hate it, but i can think of no reason to return. Also, you can't smoke. Why do I hate San Diego with a passion?
Um, if you live there, then why don't you find some other city to move to. That have things to your liking?
I agree wholeheartedly!! SD is full of fake, self centered brats. I dont know why anyone would wanna live there
Obviously you do not have an life. One of my biggest mistakes was moving away for a career opportunity, which didn't last long. I loved every moment living in SD. Why don't you expand your horizons and venture outside the city; go to the mountains nearby and visit Julian; explore the many beaches. Stop being a cry baby about where you live. Be grateful that it is nothing like New York, Houston, or LA. If you don't like it there than get out.
Thanks a lot. I have to move there. You aren't making this any easier for me. By the way. I got a good price on a place in a good neighborhood. San Francsico is more expensive for similar housing so I don't know what you're talking about in that case. The salaries in San Diego are generally higher than in Portland so that shoots down your lowsest west coast salary theory as well. The traffic is way worse in LA so that is incorrect as well. The rest of you claims I can not attest to but something set you off. What is it? Can we help with that issue?
    all of the above
If you hate it, it's your prerogative. To each his own. If you look for negativity, you are sure to find it.

I love San Diego and compared to other places I've lived, San Diego is the best in my opinion. I have met nothing but nice people and I don't stay bored for long. I've always found something to do.
I was there for a week last year. I couldn't WAIT to get back home (Texas).

I think all of the above are very much applicable!
I have know clue you have to know why.So maybe ask your mom of your family history.
What's keeping you there then? Try moving somewhere where you'll be less bitter.
Just a few points of many that could be made, by the way don't let the screen door hit you on you way to some other perfect place.

"total absense of culture and music scene"

Name a better theatre town other than New York.

    "Stupid pastimes like Over-the-line"

I've been here for 45 years and have never been there, I'm not even sure I know anyone who has. Just pretend its in another town, it might as well be.

    "More expensive than San Francisco"

See me refute your lame logic on your other question thread.

    "Crappy Restaurants"

You can't afford the best ones, and just don't go back to the bad ones. I've had disgusting food in Paris, New York, San Francisco, LA, etc. Where do you think its all good?

    "Theme parks"

Other than Sea World (probably the only possible one in the city), you could go your whole life without SEEING one much less going to one. Did someone kidnap you and take you too one?

    "Rude, self-centered people"

    Mostly just transplanted people.

    etc...

What kind of activities can we do with our dogs in San Diego, CA?

And any dog friendly restaurant ideas? What kind of activities can we do with our dogs in San Diego, CA?
    we have nice dog parks

and a couple of dog beaches

dog friendly restaurants are a well kept secret because they are not allowed by the city health dept.

Stores in the Otay Ranch Town Center are dog friendly too. What kind of activities can we do with our dogs in San Diego, CA?
There's a nice cafe/restaurant on top of the Del Mar Plaza that has a patio section overlooking Del Mar that is dog friendly (can't remember the name of the restaurant).

After eating there, travel a bit further north along the beach (still in Del Mar, close to the race track), and there is a great dog beach (my favorite).
There are some restaurants that if they have outside patio or sidewalk seating you can have your dog next to/at the table. In Pacific Beach %26amp; Ocean Beach it is common to see people eating outside at a place and their dogs are sitting there too.

Also at Liberty Station in Point Loma off of Rosecrans, almost every place to eat there has outdoor patio seating where I've seen some well behaved dogs hanging out. La Salsa, Da Kine's BBQ, Sammy's Woodfire Pizza, Panera, to name a few. That's a pretty dog friendly place.

Beyond that, you can take your dog to any of the numerous dog parks. Dog beach. Any open air mall. Trail Hiking. Tide Pool walking. Beach picnicking. And on %26amp; on...

Each California mission was about a day's travel between each other by foot or horse. There are two missions between San Diego and Los Angeles (San Luis Rey and San Juan Capistrano). That in mind, the travel time took approximately two to three days depending on the speed of the coach and how many stops it makes..

Ironically, that trip can take longer today due to the traffic on the I-5 through San Diego, Orange, and Los Angeles Counties. ;-)The Plaza del Pasado's Restaurant in Old Town, San Diego, departure point to Las Angles, how long did it take?

  • Ideas for weekend trips from San Diego?

I've lived in San Diego for four years, but I still have not seen very much of California and the rest of the Western US.

I'm looking for suggestions for some trips my girlfriend and I can take for long weekends (Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon).

    These are our requirements...

    - No more than 5-6 hour drive from San Diego each way, or no more than 2 hours by plane. We really don't want to spend more than half a day traveling each way.

    - Been to Vegas many times, so don't suggest there.

    - Nowhere in Mexico.

    - National parks and scenic areas are great, but there must be some decent hotels nearby (no camping or cabins).

    - We can't afford five star hotels and restaurants, but we're okay with spending money on "higher end" (3.5 or 4 star) places.

Laguna Beach is a nice place to relax and chill and not far from San Diego.

Which part of San Diego has more jobs?

I love La Jolla, but are there more jobs in Downtown? Trying to decide which part to move that's closer to jobs?

My husband is looking for restaurant or retail jobs, and I am looking for sales jobs and recruiter jobs. Have a baby so daycare is also a concern.

Any advice is appreciated.Which part of San Diego has more jobs?
Either one would be a good choice. The area around La Jolla called The Golden Triangle(the area bounded by the 5,805,and 52 freeways) and Sorrento Valley have lots jobs. That area is one of the biggest employment centers in San Diego. There is a large regional mall called University Town Center just east of La Jolla by the 805, so that would be a good place for a retail job. There are a few other shopping centers nearby like Costa Verde and LJ Village Sqaure for more retail. There are some big and nice restaurants too like PF Changs, Donovan's Steak House, Sammy's, Roys, ect... Also downtown La Jolla has many very nice upscale resturants too. My buddy is a corporate recruiter and use to work in an office building in Sorrento Valley doing that job and I think there are other firms around there too.

Downtown is also a good place for the same types of jobs you are looking for. There is Horton Plaza mall and a bunch of other retail there. The retail in La Jolla/UTC area is more upscale though. And there are TONS of nice restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter for your husband to check out.

Downtown and the area around La Jolla are the two of the biggest employment centers in SD. I think the La Jolla area is a better area to raise a child since its more family oriented than the areas around downtown. But it's also pricey. Even if you live in La Jolla and end up taking a job downtown, the commute will not be bad. Most heavy traffic is heading towards Sorrento Valley/UTC on I-5 north to all the office parks there. I used to live in UTC and commute downtown for work and there was never any traffic, I-5 south from La Jolla to downtown is free flowing during the morning rush hour. Evenings coming back are heavier though, but not as bad as the other direction.
Tons of restaurants downtown. Have you looked out in Eastlake? The new Otay mall is a winner and lots of shops there.Which part of San Diego has more jobs?
Tony D is right , lots of new jobs in the eastlake area, but i would recomend asking this question again, give a little more detail on what type of neighborhoods you like, and what type of retail and restaurant experience he has.

Why are there so many BYOB restaurants in Chicago?

I recently arrived in Chicago from San Diego. Why are there so many BYOB restaurants in Chicago? You never see that advertised in San Diego. Why are there so many BYOB restaurants in Chicago?
Per capita there are more bars and restaurants than there are liquor licenses available. Also, sometimes the owner has a felony criminal record and cannot be granted a liquor license. I think it's a cheap way out for some owners, however, they don't realize how much revenue they are losing in the long run. And what about the BYOB places that charge a cork fee/bottle fee/service fee? That seems like a bunch of crap to me. They make you bring your own then charge you to open it. Almost seems illegal....at least unethical! Welcome to the windy city by the way - the most beautiful city in the world!!!
It's cheaper for the bar to have people bring their own booze.

Things like that start in the east and move westward. Why are there so many BYOB restaurants in Chicago?
a license to sell alcohol is harder to get in Chicago than alot of places. It's easier to have a BYOB. They are all over, even in downstate Illinois.

  • San diego hotels?

I'm planning a trip to San Diego later this year and need some help choosing a hotel. My main reason is to visit San Diego State University (where I want to go to grad school). I'd like to find a hotel that is somewhat near the university, but also in a fun area with bars, restaurants, etc.

Price is a factor here (poor college students lol) and we don't need anything fancy, just a decent hotel in a nice/safe area.

    Any suggestions please?

    Thanks!!San diego hotels?
All above answers are good ones for cheap hotels near SDSU (my alma mater so obviously I'm biased in favor of it) BUT%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; these are not in "a fun area with bars, restaurants".

The fun areas in San Diego for someone your age will be in the beach areas (Ocean Beach is laid back, Mission Beach and Pacific Beach more active) about 12-14 miles from campus, or downtown (Gaslamp area, about the same distance away, where fewer students live but people go there for restaurants, bars, Petco Park for Padres games, nightlife).

So decide which is the priority: cheap-near-campus, or fun. Can't do both.

For what it's worth, my suggestion is to spend a little more money and forgo getting a hotel near campus, or rent a car so you can experience where people live and play when not on campus. If you think campus life revolves around the physical campus, you'll be sorely disappointed and won't want to come here. I know that was my initial impression of campus, until I went to the beach areas (where many students live) and fell in love with the place.

The trolley has a stop at SDSU, so if you aren't renting a car, try to stay somewhere with easy access to the trolley or Coaster in order to get around. I believe the Days Inn mentioned by others meets that criteria and is next to a great, reasonably priced restaurant (Nicolosi's - their sub sandwiches are super good). The trolley doesn't really get too close to the beach areas but does go downtown. The Old Town trolley stop does connect up with buses that go to the beach areas however. Good luck!

Good luck and have fun!San diego hotels?
old town san diego....great places to eat....

at least go down there and visit....
For a clean decent hotel in a nice area....I'd suggest Kings Inn in Hotel Circle. You can get rooms for around $60 a night. It's clean with a good size pool and a spa. Ask for a room in the back. There are lots of restaurants and things in the area. This is a central location that is great for zipping around to different parts of San Diego.

For things to do in San Diego, visit: http://www.sandiego-romantics.com
well. you can always go to a hotel in "hotel circle". but because of the freeways any hotel would be close. it should only take like.. 20mins maybe. at the most.

Road trip to LA, Vegas and San diego?

I'm visiting LA, Vegas and San Diego for my first time in September. I would like to get some suggestions on where to go and places to visit that are a must. Im traveling with a small group of friends and we are all in our 20s, so if we could get some good suggestions on the best hotels, restaurants, clubs, museums, shows etc. that would be great, thanks :)Road trip to LA, Vegas and San diego?
If you want to see a show, I highly recommend checking out a Cirque du Soleil show. There are a lot of different ones in Vegas and they are incredible. I actually just saw LOVE at the Mirage last week, which is set to the music of the Beatles. It was amazing! LOVE is definitely a favorite among Vegas show go-ers. You can get some really good deals on tickets right now with their "summer of cirque" promotion- some tickets as low as $50! Tickets for September dates are included. Here's the link to the LOVE ones: http://bit.ly/LOVEsummerofcirque

My favorite nightclubs in Vegas are probably HAZE at ARIA and The Bank at Bellagio. HAZE is one of the newest clubs here and it is huge! http://bit.ly/arianightlife

The Bank's dance floor isn't too big, but the interior is really classy and they play a good mix of music. http://bit.ly/thebankbellagio

Also be sure to see the fountain show outside of Bellagio and the botanical gardens inside.

I would recommend staying somewhere with a nice pool so you can spend a lot of time out there. The weather in September will be very nice. I really like the pools at Mandalay Bay and the Mirage.

I think you might be talking about Studio Diner. It looks like an old diner-car. If it's the one that's all silver, it's probably Studio. The food is pretty good. A lot of T.V. stars eat there where they are taping in the movie lot next door (hence the name Studio diner). The local cops eat there too, so you know it's good.

I would like to work somewhere like a restaurant or grocery store.Im 13 currently and i want to work at 14 over the summer. i live in California san Diego. Were can i work?
As far as I know most places in San Diego will not hire if you are not over 16. Mostly because the paperwork to have you work becomes a lot more tedious the younger you are. The best bet would be to advertise yourself to others in your neighborhood for services such as grass cutting, painting, walking dogs, babysitting and other stuff you are good at. Then when you turn 16 try to get a job at a grocery store (this is actually harder than it sounds), restaurants are not really going to hire you below 18 because of the liabilities of having you work near a kitchen and such but some smaller restaurants or those with a lot of clients might consider it. I would say work somewhere like Sea World, they always hire a lot of youngsters for the summer if you keep an eye on their postings.

Fun things to do in San Diego?

I'm going on a mini-vaca for labor day weekend. I'm spending Sept 1-4 there %26amp; i was wondering if anyone had suggestions for bars, restaurants, hang out spots, shopping, etc...to do in San DiegoFun things to do in San Diego?
    Hello!

I lived in san diego while going to college. The place is HUGE I am sure you will never run out of things to do in just 3 days.

One place that is really fun is the downtown GasLamp district. There are tons of resturants, bars, movies, hotels, even a couple of malls all in the same area. Also, Little Italy (which is close to the gaslamp district and you can walk there) is pleasant and quiet and romantic. When you are downtown you are righthere close to the ocean. You can hop on a boat and go to the shopping island ( I forget the name) but they have some of the BEST luxury shopping in cali!

If water is your thing, it is a short drive from the airport to get to the bayside. There are PLENTY of young hot people down by the boulevard and tons of bars not to mention water activities and hotbodies.

Also visit ON BROADWAY, its a nightclub with its own party bus. If you have the funds, get some friends and get on the party bus. You will not have to stand in the massive line it takes to get in regular. IT IS A FUN CLUB it is HUGE with every type of music you can imagine!
I never go to San DiegoFun things to do in San Diego?
go to the sandiego zoo and museum. then catch the first airplane bus, train, or taxicab for somewhere, just anywhere else far,far away.
dont make any plans....just going is fun enough. So many different things to do, if you make plans before you go, you may miss something. Make sure you see everything from the mountians to the beaches........... OH YEAH AND ONE THING YOU MUST KNOW....ONE WRONG TURN, AND YOU'LL END UP IN TIAGUANNA (S.P.) SO BE CAREFUL. PEOPLE SEEM AS IF THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH SERIOUS CRIMES THERE
The zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, downtown San Diego has tons of stores plus the Horton Plaza mall (make sure to check out the Gaslamp District), Old Town, Balboa (tons of museums, plus the zoo), Fashion Valley mall, Del Mar race tracks...
You can take a lunch or dinner cruise, hang out in the gas lamp district, go to old town, take a trolley ride, visit the ZOO, harrahs casino, or even head over to Mexico.... which has really been cleaned up.
Go to a Chargers game. That's the best idea. =)
Legoland is a fun amusement park!
The gas lamp district has plenty of bars that are great. For a touristy trio, check out Coronado Island. The scenery is awesome and the Hotel del Coronado is open to the public. Their beach is very nice as well if you plan on laying out.
The Zoo, Balboa Park, Coronodo Island, go by ferry.
Nice beaches at La Jolla and La Jolla Shores and Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, and Ocean Beach. PB has become kind of a youth culture capital since MTV has done a few shows from there and the X games were broadcast from there a few years ago. Also the Wild Animal Park is real good. Balboa Park is pretty especially the Prado. You can cruise around Harbor Island or Shelter Island, maybe rent a boat there or rent a surfboard at PB, MB, or OB.
    sea wolrd, or the peir
The Yard of Ale...in Old Town...beer drinking done RIGHT!!!
The Zoo. I have a live web cam on my computer and they have some great Pandas there.
you can go to old town san diego, The San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, and the Wild Animal Park are the city's three top attractions, but Balboa Park's museums, downtown's Gaslamp Quarter, the beaches, shopping in Old Town, and a performance at one of the prized live theatres or a Padres game at brand-new PETCO Park are all attractions worth visiting. .
i would avoid california like its infected with the plague as i really really really hate several laws there
I would definately make it to Old Town and make sure you are ready to eat ALOT when you go! The food there is to die for! There are 2 parts to Old Town, the southern 1/2 has all the shops and old buildings from the American settlers there (make sure to visit the Whaley House..not only is it the first courthouse out there but even the federal government considers it the most haunted place in the US) and then the northern part shows the older settlers stores and a great area for the shops with Mexican Heritage in mind. the Hotel Del Coronado is another great place to wander around...the opulence is astounding! Don't go to Tijuana though...have been there more times than I can count but if you aren't used to it, you can get scammed, pickpocketed, and razzed by the Federalis while down there
    funny things ??? uhhmmm

    in San Deigo ?? mhhh

oh ? wait I am not from San degio ... lol

    sorry .. bye

and by the way .. have a nice summer there .. lol
Balboa Park has a dozen musuems all clustered together - the automobile museum is really cool.

That's a good chunk of a day - then hit the zoo.

Where and what are the best things to do in San Diego?

I would also like to know the best attractions and the best/coolest restaurants to eat at. Also, any other points of interests...besides the obvious like Sea World and the Zoo. Thank you in advance! Oh...There will be no kids going on this trip, but we are interested in the Zoo and Sea World and stuff like that. I want to know everything!!!Where and what are the best things to do in San Diego?
Go to the Old Globe Theater for some live drama. See Balboa Park and the botanical garden. Go to the Hotel Coronado for the old-time charm and the beautiful location. Go to San Juan Capistrano, which offers a stunning view of the city, the bay, and the ocean all at once (and take a warm sweater, it can get chilly right there). For eating, I don't know specifically, but the Gaslamp (or is it Gaslight?) district is good for nightlife. Also, visit La Jolla (section of town) for more great eats and a more refined dining and shopping vibe. Get out of town and see Torre Pines, a little north of San Diego. Finally, if you're there long enough, get out east to the desert - like Borrego Desert State Park.

    Have a great time!
About the zoo, the in town (old) one is OK, but their new animal park about 30 miles out is wayyyy better.

It is operated by the same people but huge open space with no cages.Where and what are the best things to do in San Diego?
I live in Los Angeles and San Diego is a wonderful place to visit, IMHO. You got two of the biggies with Sea World (expensive and overrated, in my opinion, for adults) and the Zoo (a must-see). Here are some other things to do:

    1) Night out in the Gaslamp Quarter. This is a section of downtown that is full of great restaurants, night clubs, etc. A great place for a night out on the town (but it will be expensive).

    2) Take the trolley to Tijuana. The city runs a public trolley that takes you all the way to the Mexican border. There, you just walk across some turnstyles and youre in TJ. Note that it's a VERY Americanized view of Mexico thats basically a huge tourist trap, but it is something that you should experience once in your life. Be careful of pickpockets.

    3) SD Wild Animal Park. If you are renting a car, you should consider taking the drive out to the Wild Animal Park. This is like a zoo (actually, the SD Zoo and this are run by the same organization), except there are no cages - the animals roam pretty free on large sections of land. It's pretty cool (although the SD Zoo is better if you had to choose).

    4) Old Town. Once again, this can be a bit touristy, but this is where you can view California's first Spanish settlement. It tried to recreate life in the late 1800's and I think it does a good job of it. If this is your first time to California, I definitely recommend this - the older I get, the more I realize how the early California missions have influenced the state's culture to what it is today.

    5) The beach. If this is your first time to California, I'm guessing that you want to see the beach. If you are young and up for some action, I recommend going to Pacific Beach. This is where a bunch of cheap food and bars are located - and it's pretty much right next to the beach. If you are older or dont want that scene, I suggest Coronado Island or maybe Mission Beach.

    6) Renting jetski's or boats in Mission Bay. Mission Bay is such a great area for watersports. Rentals are expensive, but if the weather is right and the water somewhat warm, it's worth it.

Note that many of these activities arent full-day activities. The Wild Animal Park, the Zoo, and Sea World are the only true full-day activities that I can think of.

Also, there are other activities if you run out - the "town" of Julian is one. I recommend picking up a good tour book (Frommers is pretty good for SD) and going from there.
Be sure to tour the WWII aircraft carrier that's permanently docked in the marina. It's very, very, interesting. Also the sailing ship that Master and Commander was filmed on. After the tours be sure to go to Top Gun BBQ.(close by). Fantastic bbq(also a scene from Top Gun was filmed there - hence the name change). For dessert, stop in to the Ghiradelli Chocolate store in the same downtown neighborhood for a sundae and goodies to take home. To die for!

We also enjoyed the Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Take a drive over to Coronado. The drive and the whole area is beautiful. And if you need to relax, have a picnic in Balboa Park. Old Town has tons of wonderful restaurants and bars if you'd like a bit of nightlife.

I could go on and on since San Diego is one of our favorite cities to visit! Enjoy!
Visiting the Zoo is a must, but Balboa Park (where the Zoo is) is full of a ton of great museums. Each day of the week a certain few are free - if any of them catch your fancy, plan out which day you can stop by before your trip so you don't have to pay to enjoy them. Mission Beach has a cool roller coaster and is a happening beach. For dining, you can't beat Monsoon (indian) and Royal Thai down in the Gaslamp (downtown). Ra (sushi) is hip and has great food as well. Hash House a Go-Go has unbelievable breakfast food and is very popular (5th Avenue just north of Balboa Park). Overall, the Gaslamp, Hillcrest and La Jolla have great dining. And for lodging, I would say try the Sheraton on A Street or if you'd like to be near the beach get a vacation rental. Expedia and CoastRentals (www.coastrentals.com) or VRBO for options.
my favorite place to get great Mexican food was in Cardif...Las Olas on Highway 1...the salsa will make you sweat!
How long you are going to be there effects what you can do. There is so much to do in the area. As you already said there is the Zoo and Sea World. The wild animal park is also really neat. Old town is not as good as it use to be but is still worth going (if you can find parking) They have museums and shops and great mexican restaurants in there also there is a little 18 hole golf course next to Old town that is all par 3s and is quite fun even for the bad golfers. Balboa park is an all day trip or two. they have a lot of museums to go to but in my opinion the Air and Space museum and the toy train museum are the best! But there are lots of neat museums to choose from and sometimes they have cool traveling ones too. We went to one that had all the different models of torture devices through out history. It was really interesting. You have to go to Mission Beach and Belmont Park and Sea Port Village. They have a lot of shopping and it is right on the beach and you can ride a few rides too. And go to the Midway (the docked naval carrier) that takes most of the day to do but id very interesting. There is so much more to tell you about so if you want to know more just email me. In fact my parents are in San Diego right now!!
If you go to Seaworld do this: get any sort of average sized hand stamp or just some ink, rub in on the top of your hand so it's smudged a little, then just flash your "stamp" quickly at the gate to "re-enter" and you just saved yourself $60 and get to drink free beer. Basically just make it look like you hand your hand stamped. Trust me, it's a lot easier sneaking into that place than people realize; the employees there don't check or care. During our free beer tasting the lady conducting it noticed me and my 5 friends had all done that but she just laughed and served us more beer.
Dont miss the light house in Point Loma.

I wouldn't recommend sitting and chatting with an old friend here in San Diego anywhere !!! There have been so many children kidnapped here in San Diego County it is sickening.

Outside Catering to Wedding Reception in San Diego?

    Hello Everyone!

My Fiance and I are getting married next year and we are trying to figure out where we can have a ceremony and reception that allows us to bring our own catering. We have a restaurant in the family and it is very important to us to use that as our catering; but nearly every place we think of does not allow outside catering.

My Only thought thus far is an estate rental, but I am not liking the options so far.

    From a Laguna Beach blog...

"Yes, Dick's Last Resort is a horrible place. I went once and was the only one in the group who had no idea that is was a theme restaurant. Not good... I was rude back to the waiter who told me to get my own drink and he threw straws at me. There is one near my office and I routinely see people walking around with big paper condom hats that they make most of the guests wear... just what you always want to see on your lunch break."

"Im pretty sure the Taco dude was for real. There's a Dick's Last Resort in the touristy area of Dallas and every Halloween they all dress up as *****, with balls of course. They always sit down at your table and get all up in your business. it's quaint."

"Dick's in SD is ONLY for the tacky tourist and/or the 13-18 crowd. The food is horrible and overpriced, the place is dirty and the wait staff are all spawned from TACO!"

Every city has a "Dick's." In Boston, it's Durgin Park at Faneuil Hall.

What's your price range? If you're looking for a hip, cool place, there's JRDN in PB (kinda pricey though - with drinks, probably $50-60 a head), and a ton of restaurants downtown. There's a Brazilian grill (the name eludes me) on the top level at Horton Plaza that's really good, Mr. Tiki's Mai Tai Lounge (assuming everyone's over 21), Blue Ginger on F street for asian-fusion food... Check opentable.com if none of those are what you're looking for. You can search by price range and location, and please make sure to call the restaurant at least 3 weeks ahead of time so they can see if they can accomodate your party. Everything depends on the age of your guests and what you want to pay for your event.

We are heading to San Diego at the end of May for a few days.

What is an affordable, good hotel to stay at?

Besides, the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld, what else is there to do there? Affordable restaurants? Is it worth driving to Carlsbad, if so, how far is it?Things to do in San Diego?
You can get a 5 day pass to Sea World, the Zoo, and The Wild Animal Park where you can go to any of the 3 for 5 days. It's a pretty good deal.

You can hit several places near the embargodaro all in one day. The star of India, Sea Port Village, and Harbor Island. On that day eat at Anthony's Harbor Side on Harbor St.

If you like the beach then you are in for a treat. San Diego has a several great beaches. My favorites are Pacific Beach and La Jolla Shores. On the day that you go to Pacific Beach eat at World Famous Restaurant. It's right on the boardwalk and you can watch the sun go down over the ocean as you eat. On the day that you go to La Jolla Shores see if you can take some time to walk down Prospect St. It has a lot of high end art studios and shops. Stop and one of the cafes and have a cappuccino and watch the people go by. Eat dinner at the La Valencia.

You can go south of the Border to Tijuana. If you do take the trolley to the border, walk across and then take a taxi to Revelucion St. It's a tourist street. You can buy all sorts of stuff there. Don't get off the main drag or you can run into trouble! Eat at any of the street cafes but don't drink the water.

There is a Holiday Inn on Point Loma Blvd that is affordable and it is central to all the places that you might be going.

If you go to North Island (Coronado) then check out the Hotel Del Coronado. It's and old wooden hotel with A lot of character. There are public beaches there and you can look across and see the Point Loma Light house if you look to the north and if you look to the south you can see Imperial Beach.

Carlsbad is nothing to write home about. It a beach town were a lot of Marines hang out (Camp Pentalton is near by). It can be a rough area depending on were you go.

If you like museums then you can go to Balboa Park. The park it'self beautiful. It hosted a worlds fair years ago. When you go there take the 8 to the 163 south so that you can see the park from the point of view of the highway, You'll be glad you did.

After you visit San Diego you will want to live there. But when you take a look at the price of living it looses it's charm. Well, San Diego may be Americas finest City, but the blue sky up above is very expensive for those who choose to live there.
Best hotel in San Diego for the money is the Hilton Mission Bay. Best Hotel at any price is the Loews Coronado. The Hotel del Coronado is nice and is overpriced. Sometimes the Catamaran on Mission Bay has some really good deals on rooms and that place is great too. If you have points for free stays then there is both a Hyatt and a Marriott in down town SD, but I wouldn't pay full price for either. All Mission Valley hotels are mediocre and all La Jolla hotels are way overpriced.Things to do in San Diego?
The San Diego Wild Animal Park is a great place to visit. Also, head to Old Town for some delicious food and great shopping. Visit The Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado Island. It's a very interesting place to visit. Take a harbor cruise while in San Diego.
go to ***** last resort, its a restaurant and i went there 2 years ago for spring break i have to say out of everything that i did there, i had the most fun there

Best fresh fish restaurant(s) in San Diego?

Please, no "Red Lobster" or "Anthony's" answers, and I'm already familiar with the Fish Market as well as Rubios.Best fresh fish restaurant(s) in San Diego?
Fish House Vera Cruz in San Marcos is a little known gem with reasonable sea food and inviting atmosphere and it even has a fish monger. Great place for a sit down meal.
Cant think of the exact name of the restraunt but it is at the San Diego Harbor by that little Ship Museum where the ship from the Master and Commander is at. Its a restraunt that is hanging over the water.. Great Shrimp :)Best fresh fish restaurant(s) in San Diego?
I cannot think of anything in my entire life that has been so over rated as the lobsters in Puerto Nuevo.

I wouldn't eat another one if someone paid me.

Try the Fish Market in Del Mar by the race track or along Harbor Drive next to the Midway.

Downstairs at the latter is casual.

    Upstairs is upscale.
King's Fish...Tin Fish in Imperial Beach (fish tacos)...if you really want some good stuff, cross the border and roll over to Puerto Nuevo and get some fresh lobster.
hmmn. How about Nicks at the Beach?
Most San Diego concierge's recommend 'Oceanaire' in the Gaslamp. 4th and Jst. Ive never eaten there but I trust their judgement. I prefer fried fish from the Tin Fish on the Imperial Beach pier.
It is not the most high end place, but point loma seafoods has really good, and fresh seafood.

  • Traveling to Vegas from San Diego?

I will be traveling to Vegas from San Diego, and like always, will be driving. I have made this drive several times, but this time I wanted to do a little site seeing. I know in certain areas there is not much of anything around, but my question is does anyone know any cool places to stop along the way? It could be restaurants, stores, museums, etc. Anything to make our drive more enjoyable. I am especially interested in restaurants!!

Thanks!!Traveling to Vegas from San Diego?
Around Barstow you will see signs for Calico Ghost Town. This is a fun place with a train, old western shops, places to grab a bite. See their website http://www.calicotown.com

Now that the weather is getting cooler, it would be a fun few hours. Also, you can try Peggy Sue's Diner. You will see the signs around the same time that you see Calico. It's a 50's diner with rock n roll memorabilia on the walls. Burgers and shakes are the speciality and you can play tunes on the juke box.

To Banananose: They closed the Roy Rogers Museum in Victorville, (not Apple Valley) years ago and it is now located in Branson, MO.
Unfortunately there is not much between San Diego to Vegas but the desert. However here are a few places to stop. First stop Barstow, lots of places to eat, gas up and rest. Next stop Baker, home of the world's tallest thermometer. Few places to eat, gas up. Next stop, Primm NV. Located on the state line between California and Nevada on the I-15, is home to the factory outlet center. A shoppers paradise with more than 100 designer outlets featuring a wide selections of shops and fine brands including Polo Ralph Lauren, Neiman Marcus Las Call , Williams Somona, Burberry, Coach, Nike, Kenneth Cole and Versace. The prices there are unbelievable. There are restuarants, casino and other attractions at Primm. 30 mins from Primm is Sin City.Traveling to Vegas from San Diego?
I'd agree with what has already been said. Barstow is the place I usually stop off at. Sometimes for the outlet stores, but often just to grab a snack. It's sort of the half-way point.

Other than that, if you pick the right time of day (or night) you can just put on some good music and sort of space out for 5 hours. There's nothing really worth stopping for nor worth making your trip any longer for.
You should stop at the Calico Ghost Town! It used to be owned by Knotts (who built Knotts Berry Farm) and it is now a California State park, but it is a great stop, and a lot of fun!
The Mad Greek restaurant in Baker, CA is an institution. There is an excellent photo in the source.
Apple Valley CA there is a Roy Rogers Museum

Primm NV (CA border) has a Bonnie/Clyde car and a rollercoaster and an outlet mall

But why waste the time, just get to Vegas and have fun

Where can I watch manchester united vs chelsea in san diego on 4/26/08?

Cox (Fox Soccer Channel) isn't showing the Manchester United at Chelsea game this Saturday, though it may decide the title (Grrrr!!!). It is shown on the "Setanta" network, which I am not sure how to get on my TV. So, I'm wondering which local pubs/bars or restaurants will be showing this game. Fun things to do in San Diego?

Im going to California tom.! im super excited. San Diego is the place where going. Des anyone recommend any fun places or restaurants or w/e. My mom wants to go to Belmont Park. Is it any fun?

ty!Fun things to do in San Diego?
Belmont Park is an amusement park right by the beach in Mission Beach. They have carnival rides and games there, plus an arcade. The wooden roller coaster there is one of the oldest in the country. You should have a good time.

There are lots of good places to eat around the beach areas, especially in Pacific Beach, about 5 miles north of Mission Beach. For a fun, casual place to eat, check out Dick's Last Resort in the Gaslamp Quarter downtown. There's also a part of town north of downtown San Diego called Hillcrest that has lots of great restaurants.

Besides the usual places that tourists go (Sea World, the zoo, etc.), I would recommend checking out the museums in Balboa Park. I think they're free on Tuesdays.
Try Balboa Park too. It's huge and there is a lot of stuff to see and museums.Fun things to do in San Diego?

Amusement parks-Seaworld, Zoo, Wild Animal Park, at this time of year, you can also go to the Del Mar Fair. If you drive out towards LA, you can go over to Six Flags or Disneyland.

Stay and see in San Diego for Honeymoon?

We're going on our honeymoon in early November. Any suggestions on where to stay? I found a few packages online for Rancho Bernardo and Paradise Point, but don't know if these are good hotels. We don't want to break the bank either because we plan on going to Europe in the Spring. Any ideas on restaurants would be great also!Stay and see in San Diego for Honeymoon?
I would fly into SD and hit the Hanalei for the first night. The after sleeping in and checking out the jacuzzi, Id get over to seaport village for a romantic stroll by the ocean on the boardwalk and pick up a couple souvenirs. Eat a late lunch of fish %26amp; ride the carousel together. I'd have booked dinner at a romantic resturant in little italy and then checked into a bed and breakfast with room service ;) by then I'd be ready to lay on the beach in la jolla and nap (yes in nov wear your sweats) then get cleaned up and have a nice dinner there at Alfonso's with cocktails later walking around downtown. Then in the am hit the airport to go home. I am so jealous lol, have fun and congratulations!!! Really I'd say skip on the rancho bernardo thing, it is not very fun place for honeymooning.
Prices should start to drop now that the weather is getting cooler there. Look for something in hotel circle because that would put you pretty close to anything you want to do and it's not to far from the airport. There are a lot of good places to eat there, you can just pick one and you will pretty much be guaranteed it will be good. For the night life I would go to the gas lamp, you can have fun there at any bar. Congrats and I hope you have a great timeStay and see in San Diego for Honeymoon?
RB Inn is inland not not really near any major sites or attractions. Paradise Point might be nicer. The motels on HotelCircle aren't great Honeymoon material. Try something around Harbor Island (right near airport...you could walk). There's a huge Sheraton and a Hilton. There is also a Hilton Mission Bay Resort that's nice and a small Hilton downton SD (right in Gaslamp) as well.Since you don't want to break the bank, I'll leave out the Zoo, Wild Animal Park and Sea World. Visit Old Town, Balboa Park, the Embarcadero and Coronado. You could take one of the Hornblower dinner Cruises, or just a Harbor Cruise. There is also a retired Navy Aircraft Carrier that you can visit. The Gaslamp District has tons of great restaurants. Since you're going to Europe in the spring, there is a Spanish restaurant...Sevilla and a french one called Provencale..or something like that. For Mexican Food I like Miguels on Coronado Island. I really like their patio. Jake's in Del Mar is one of my all time favorites. It's right on the beach, but it's a little on the pricey side...not too bad though, and it might be nice to take a drive to downtown La Jolla via Torrey Pines and La Jolla Scenic Drive afterwards. Also, Alfonso's in La Jolla is another mexican restaurant I like (mostly for the patio again)...in fact Downtown La Jolla is a great place to visit in general...reminds me of the Riviera a lot. For hamburgers check out Corvette Diner (all 50's style) or HoDad's in Ocean Beach (hippie style). Some cheaper eats of the local variety are: Rubio's Fish Tacos or Pat and Oscars (famous for their breadsticks and greek salads and pocket sandwiches) Hope that helps. Enjoy and congrats.
I would want to stay in Gaslamp. It's easy to walk to everything, and there's plenty of restaurants, clubs, spas, attractions, etc. The Omni is really nice, but there's also some cheaper chains in the Gaslamp. Croce's is a great place to eat dinner and watch live music.
RB Inn is pretty inland and though beautiful, not really close to much except the Wild Animal Park. I would suggest the Westin in the Gaslamp, or the Hilton (or is it the Hyatt???) on Mission Bay. They're closer to more of the touristy sites and yet still pretty swanky for a honeymoon. If you're looking to splurge, the Coronado Marriott is beautiful!!!! Or La Costa in Del Mar right on the cliffs (might also be called the Aventine).
Check out these hotels on Shelter Island right on San Diego Bay. This area is close to town and the airport and many have rooms overlooking the bay. Humphries on the bay is here and there may be someone performing while you are there. I prefer the Kona Kai hotel. It is less busy here and you can walk along a path right next to the bay.
Lots of good recommendations already. I'll add that RB isn't really the place to be if you want to see San Diego -- too far inland.

As others have mentioned, the Gaslamp district is very nice to stay near. It let's you walk around and enjoy the restaurants and nightlife. If you're near the Gaslamp, you can also walk to the attractions on the oceanfront (seaport village, Star of India Sailing Ship, Seafood restaurrants (Anthony's is famous), etc. A simple taxi ride to the famous San Diego Zoo %26amp; Balboa Park.
When my husband and I have stayed in San Diego we have always stayed in Hotel Circle! It is close to pretty much everything. The beaches are not to far and sights are closerr too! It is usually the cheaper hotels. The best thing to do though is to go on line to expedia.com or hotwire.com and put the dates you are going and what area you want to stay in and then you can find good/more reasonable prices! You can get package deals for the sight too!

    Hope this helps!

San Diego - good areas to live?

all the North County Beach Towns

    Hillcrest

    Bankers Hill

    North Park (south of University)

    Coronado

    La Jolla

    Del Mar

    Mission Hills
You can live just about anywhere in San Diego county and be near enough to anything that you want to do - restaurants, shops, movies, etc. - with a short drive. There are malls just about everywhere.

But, be warned! This area has one of the highest cost of living levels in the country! If you don't have a good job lined up or are already employed, DON'T come to San Diego!

As far as being safe, you take your chances like everyone else, everywhere else. Just stay away from risky situations and use your own judgement. I've lived here all my life and haven't been in any danger from anyone else yet.San Diego - good areas to live?
I just spent 3 months in Oceanside, CA. up by the San Luis Rey Mission. Nice place. Couple of nice bars, lots of good restaurants, close the the Douglas Gate of the Marine base. Not too far from the beach, but I could've been closer for my taste. It's a "small town feel" with big town amenities.

Bunnies and coyotes on the lawn at night, and the shopping center is just 5 minutes away by car.
living downtown SD is a lot of fun. I also live just outside downtown, off the 94 and that was also nice. and i also had a place in lemon grove, which is about 10 minutes up the 94...really liked that a lot.

What restaurants are in this city?In California, what's the half way point (city) from Riverside to San Diego?
Temecula or the next big city, Escondido. There is a mall with Nordstrom, Macy's, a food court, all the other little stores (Forever 21, GameStop, Hot Topic, Godiva, etc.), also a large plaza with a huge movie theater, tons of places to eat, and lots of hotels. Escondido isn't the nicest of areas but the areas around the malls seem to be the best. Temecula used to be such a nice place with all of its rolling hills and wineries- now so many people have moved there that it just looks like any other suburban city complete with Starbucks, a million traffic-y stoplights, and all the other things you're used to like shopping strips, etc. Either way- both average, nice places to stop and get some rest.
I would agree, probably somewhere around Temecula. Lots of good places to eat including the wine country. Very nice food, drink and views. In California, what's the half way point (city) from Riverside to San Diego?

I have been to a bunch of them. I'll rank them for you ...

    1. Morton's - the best by FAR, as a previous answer also noted. It is on J street, pretty close to your hotel.

    2. Rainwater's on Kettner - Nice atmosphere, but not as good as Morton's in my opinion.

    3. Ruth's Chris - Noisy, good food, and expensive. It's on the embarcadero by the Cruise Ships, so it also has a nice view.

    4. Flemings - This place sucks (I went there for the first time this past Sunday, also my last). The food was good, the service was terrible, and every bit as expensive as Mortons. I guess you can take the waiter out of Outback, but you can't take Outback out of the waiter! If you're still interested in going to this noisy cesspool, it's on 4th and K.

There are others, but these are all reasonably close to your hotel. Enjoy your stay!
All the obvious ones-Mortons, Ruth's Chris, Flemings, The Plam-but a SD native that you migh tlike is Rainwater's on Kettner (downtown by the train station) or Bertrand's at Mister A's (Bunker Hill)-hands down the best for food AND view!Any good place to eat (steak) in down town san diego?
    Carvers
The Strip Club, but make reservations.
    Steaks:

MORTON'S (a chain, but clearly the best)--plus you're right in the Gaslamp and can walk across the street to Red Pearl for some amazing cocktails)

    LOU AND MICKEY'S

    FLEMING'S

    THE PALM

    LG's Prime Steakhouse

RUTH'S CHRIS (you can go to in any major city, the one here isn't anything to write home about because when you are finished w/ dinner you still have to cab it back to the Gaslamp.)

GREAT RESTAURANTS: The Oceanaire Seafood Room is exceptional beyond description.
There is a plethora of good restaurants in downtown.

    Mortons

    Blue Point

    Top of the Market

    Strip House

    Dakota

    Sushi Deli

    On Broadway
That depends on what kind of steak you are looking for...

Mortons is just a classic and very delicious...i love the lobster bisque there too...just a side note.

The best double filet mignon i have eaten though was at LG's steakhouse on 6th and F i believe. It was simply phenomenal...like mouth watering good...

Now Rei Do Gado on 4th and Broadway (across from horton plaza) is a brazilian steakhouse that is all you can eat and quite delicious as well (i recommend ordering a caipirihna drink as well)...
hyatt you rich, try the Dakota Grill on 5th Avenue
My favorite downtown restaurants are not steak houses. they are

    1) Rama Thai at 327 4th street, the best thai downtown, and

    2) Indigo Grill in Little Italy, a southwestern eclectic run by Chef Debra Scott, one of San Diego's finest.

If you must have a great steak, I recommend taking a cab to Harbor Island (near the airport), and going to Island Prime - better than any of the chains for steak.

Help with San Diego, CA? Whats general lay of the land?

I am in all likelihood going to be moving to San Diego within the next several months. I need some advice on the lay of the land, generally speaking. For example, what to do, where to go, bars, restaurants, the whole nine yards. Thanks,

-J.Help with San Diego, CA? Whats general lay of the land?
Hillcrest is the gay community here in San Diego, it's actually one of the better areas (but not everyone is ok with that). North Park is near there and pretty good as well.

Ocean Beach is where I live and it's very community based (very 420 friendly as well), my fiancee and I know pretty much all our neighbors, the bars know us by name (pizza place too), it's small about 7 sq miles and has the greatest farmers market every week. Parking does suck though, so make sure whatever place you get has a parking spot. we pay $1300 for a one bed room, one bath, with balcony, in a secured complex with pool and hot tub, less than one block from the water.

MB and PB are crowded and have horrible traffic, I avoid them at all costs, they have more of a party vibe and a lot of the college kids live there.
the gaslamp is really fun! it is a few blocks in downtown. Tons of bars and hundreds of restaraunts are in downtown. Seaport village is a nice place to visit once or twice.

Beaches are really nice here all the ones in northern county are really nice. tons of hippie surfers in encinitas/cardiff/solana beach/carlsbad

all of those towns are along the pacific coast highway just one valley after another. Cheaper younger culture exists more southern county.Help with San Diego, CA? Whats general lay of the land?
Just remember - the closer to the ocean you live, the more expensive!

Also true...temperature fluctuates by one degree for each mile you live inland from the ocean. Ex: If you live 20 miles east of the ocean, it's typically 20 degrees warmer (summer) and 20 degrees colder (winter.)

    FYI

Some of the beach communities - Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach. (Of course, La Jolla - but that's for millionaires!)

Most family friendly neighborhood - Mira Mesa (92126).
There is Hillcrest area for good resturants, as well as little Italy. Stay away from the tourist places like seaport village and the gaslamp, unless you want to pay a lot. Padre games are fun as is going and walking around la jolla shores. Hope this helps.
A lot will depend on where you live.

sounds like you may want the Mission Bay area (Pacific beach, Mission beach, Ocean beach)

Things to do/Places to Eat In San Diego/ Family Friendly?

    Hi,

My family and I are going to San Diego, CA in June. We have never been there before and I wanted to know if anyone knew of some family friendly restaurants near our hotel, Comfort Inn Zoo/Sea World. We are going to Sea World and the zoo, but wanted to know what else to do. What are the beaches like? Is that water warm? Are there big waves that we can watch people surf on? What is the temperature like in June? Any info. would be great and much appreciated! Thanks!! :)Things to do/Places to Eat In San Diego/ Family Friendly?
Hi, I live in San Diego. It's SUNNY SAN DIEGO! The beaches are worth going to, the sand is soft, and in June, the temperature is in the 80's or 90's or so. You should try going to the Coronado beach. It's beautiful there :) You should also stop by Balboa park, LOTS of stuff to do there. Go to Old Town too.

    Hope you have fun!
We visited San Diego last summer and I thought it was a wonderful city. Make sure you go over to Coronado - the beach there is lovely and the neighbourhood is nice to sightsee in. Also, don't miss La Jolla - gorgeous beach, hundreds of seals lounging right in front of you, but of course a bit touristy.

I actually would not recommend the zoo - it's a little pricey, and we hardly saw any animals - it seemed like they were all sleeping at the back of their exhibits. Can you make it to the San Francisco Zoo? Yes, the one that was in the news recently - from pictures I've seen, the animals are really up close (yeah, I know, but I'm sure they've taken every precaution that they'll never escape again). If you do go to the San Diego Zoo, go to Albertson's (I think) and buy your tickets there in gift card form - they have racks of gift cards and you'll save quite a bit of money by buying them there. We didn't go to the Wild Animal Park though - that might be better. We took the Old Town Trolley tour too - it's good to get an idea of which places you'd like to go back to visit:

    http://www.historictours.com/sandiego/

If you buy your tickets online from the site above you'll save some money too.

If you like baseball, I was told that the tickets are really cheap - $5 and it would be something fun to do for an afternoon.

Balboa park is also really wonderful - there are free days at many of the museums - Mondays and Tuesdays, I think. Just ask at the tourism place there.

We ate in a lot of Mexican places while we were there since we love Mexican food. I can't really recommend a spectacular restaurant though since we didn't go all out on the trip. I heard that the Sunday brunch at the Hotel Del Coronado was wonderful though, but pricey. It would be a really special treat and whether you eat there or not, go inside. It's the hotel where Some Like it Hot was filmed with Marilyn Monroe.

I'm really looking forward to going back to San Diego one day soon to do all of the things I couldn't talk my husband into. I am sure you'll enjoy your visit!

Best wishesThings to do/Places to Eat In San Diego/ Family Friendly?
I'm a San Diego native and I could type on and on but, here is a website for a free, weekly. local magazine that in my opinion is the best source of information for the entire area.

It's what I look at every Thursday to see what happening. Welcome and have a great time. The only problem with June is that time a year we get what's called June gloom in the morning. It's just low clouds that keep it cool until afternoon.

or here is the SD Visitor's Information Center link

I would just add that yes the air is warm but the water won't be like florida or hawaii, it's in the 60's and be prepared for June gloom.

The zoo is a must but be there at 9 when they open. After 2 hours the animals have all been fed and tend to lay around as the crowds appear. That gives you 1/2 day for something else. By the way, the zoo is next to Balboa Park so you can do all the museums if you like.

If you have little kids then you may want to visit Legoland in Carlsbad which is 1/2 hour north of the city. If you're lucky the flower fields next door will be in bloom.

Best fish and chips: Point Loma Seafood

    Best view: Cabrillo National Monument
in june you can catch the del mar fair in del mar

    lego land

    the animal park

del mar fair beach has very strong waves and you will surly find surfers

usually in june the temp. is 70f-100f( usually 81f)

Star of India? Or the USS Midway?
    It's the USS Midway.

    it's amazing!
    the berkley
There are actually a few of them, there is the star of india, the hornblower, USS Midway and another on, but i can't remember the name of it.
The USS Midway, Star India, and the Hornblower are all close to eachother and they are all close to Anthony's. But if you drive like 3 minutes to Seaport Village, you could try the Harbor House. A really nice place. REALLY good lobster bisque! And you have a great view of the bay and Coronado Bridge.

Things to do in San Diego?

My husband and I are going on a trip to San Diego next week and I am looking for some tips: Things to do, sights to see, restaurants to eat at, great neighborhoods, etc! Thanks for the tips!Things to do in San Diego?
I live in San Diego and I must say that there a tons of things to do here.

If you like the beach: I highly recommend Del Mar or Torrey Pines. There's a breathtakingly beautiful cliff where you have a total panoramic view from Torrey Pines. 2 thumbs up for sure! Also, Coronado Island is my absolute favorite. At the Hotel Del, they have a beachside bar and happy hour everyday. A definite must do.

If you like the mountains: I recommend checking out a quaint little town called Julian. It is a much older town and they are famous for their apple pies.

If you like fun and nightlife: Check out Downtown Gaslamp Quarter. Excellent restaurants and bars.

And for just exploring: Sea World, San Diego Zoo, La Jolla (a very wealthy area with museums), take a ferry boat ride from Seaport Village (lots of fun shops) to Coronado Island, the Cabrillo Point Light House (best view of San Diego hands-down), ride a jetski on the San Diego Bay.

Really, you will have so much fun here.

Hope I was helpful and enjoy your stay!
Take a caravan tour at the Wild Animal Park.Things to do in San Diego?
The San Diego zoo is a blast. you can go to the ocean. and if you guys are into golf. San Diego has really good golf resorts
well theres the obvious, Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Seaworld, but theres also some really great neighborhoods. check out Scripps Ranch, Rancho Penasquitos, and be sure to go Downtown and go to Gelato Vera and Saffron Chicken.
downtown san diego is pretty cool. I think it's called gaslamp or something like that.
it might be in santa cruize but if its not go to the board walk
San Diego Zoo is my favorite. Also, visit La Jolla Beach. It's beautiful there. :)
There are great neighborhoods all around :) beautiful houses and plants, except one part of it by some beach that i dont remember was very...druggie-filled. Also, there are homeless people around EVERY corner even if it is a nice neighborhood. The restaurants are VERY expensive so we ate at jack in the box and panda express which are both delicious :) The beaches are amazing and pretty much wherever u go theres something to see. Have fun :)
Have breakfast at The Mission restaurant in Mission Beach and chill out at the beach there for a while.
Best advice I can give is:

Go to the zoo and Balboa Park. You won't be disappointed.

Go to Seaport Village and browse the shops. Have a lunch at Edgewater Grill and don't forget the bread - it's the best.

Take a water taxi over to Coronado and check out the view from Peohe's. Also check out the Hotel Del Coronado for it's historical interst and beautiful beach.

My personal interests take me up to Point Loma and Cabrillo Nat'l Monument. The view is awesome.

If you have time, go up to La Jolla. Lots to do, see and eat.

Get a copy of The San Diegan - a booklet with info and reviews all over the area. www.sandiegan.com

Mission and Pacific Beach are your best bet for fun in the sun.

Some must see attractions are the world famous Zoo, Sea World, and Balboa Park. You can get a park passport which allows you entry to a dozen museums as well as the zoo.

North County San Diego is home to the Zoo's Wild Animal Park. There are multi acre enclosures where herds of wild animals roam plus lots of hiking trails.

La Jolla offers great views, great food, and shopping.

Check out the surfers at historic Winansea Beach. At low tide you can walk out onto the tide pools. Walk along the Cove and check out the caves. Take a stroll on Prospect St and check out the shops, galleries, and have some authentic Mexican food and Alfonso's. Then head to the Birch aquarium at The Scripps Institution of Oceanography. It has a spectacular view of the bluffs over the Pacific Ocean.

For nightlife, the Gaslamp Quarter offers dining, drinking and dancing. It's also the home of Petco Park and the San Diego Padres major league baseball team.

    http://www.gaslamp.org/

The Old Point Loma Lighthouse at the Cabrillo National Monument offers great views of the dowtown skyline, San Diego Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. On a clear day you can see all the way to Mexico.

I would absolutely check out Balboa Park. Balboa Park is home to more than 15 museums, the famous San Diego Zoo, several arts and international culture associations, historic architecture and famous botanical gardens. I would recommend even eating at the Prado, which is right in Balboa Park.

I've included a list of all the free things Balboa Park as to offer below, including a timetable of all the museums that offer free admission.

You should also visit the Gaslamp Quarter which is the city's historic downtown neighborhood, now home to many of the city's finest restaurants, a plethora of pubs and nightclubs, theaters, galleries, and at least 100 retail shops. They actually have a bunch of free events going on all the time, so check out their website below.

Seaport Village is also an extremely cute area, with a bunch of retail shops and restaurants. Check out the link below for more info.

San Diego also has a bunch of free concerts going on in various parks during the summer. Bring a bottle of wine and a blanket, it's a really great time.

    Anyway, hope this helps!
    Go to Coronado. Def.

Sea World? LegoLand? Zoo? Wild Animal Park?

Old Town is pretty cool. Um. theres a san diego lighthouse.

I dont remember what beach it is. but you should eat at jakes
