the trip would be in the summertime. We're not really into clubbing that much. Prefer to see some popular sights, eat out at nice restaurants, do some shopping, see some nice scenery etc..just a laid back holiday.

I've never been to Boston but I am sure San Diego is the place for you.
Always sunny, beautiful beaches, mountains, deserts and the Pacific Ocean are all gorgeous.
Lots of shopping here and in Mexico which is about 15 minutes away.
As far as laid back goes, you can figure that one out. East Coasters are obnoxious and loud. West Coasters are easy going and relaxed.
If you want to go now, San Diego is very warm, and a lot of entertainment, park and beach activities
If you like more cultural, historic sites, then go Boston except winterSan Diego vs Boston? which is better city to visit for a few days?
Both are great cities. If it were winter I would say San Diego, but Boston is incredible in the summer. Really I don't think you can go wrong with either of them.
