Things to do in San Diego?

We are heading to San Diego at the end of May for a few days.

What is an affordable, good hotel to stay at?

Besides, the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld, what else is there to do there? Affordable restaurants? Is it worth driving to Carlsbad, if so, how far is it?Things to do in San Diego?
You can get a 5 day pass to Sea World, the Zoo, and The Wild Animal Park where you can go to any of the 3 for 5 days. It's a pretty good deal.

You can hit several places near the embargodaro all in one day. The star of India, Sea Port Village, and Harbor Island. On that day eat at Anthony's Harbor Side on Harbor St.

If you like the beach then you are in for a treat. San Diego has a several great beaches. My favorites are Pacific Beach and La Jolla Shores. On the day that you go to Pacific Beach eat at World Famous Restaurant. It's right on the boardwalk and you can watch the sun go down over the ocean as you eat. On the day that you go to La Jolla Shores see if you can take some time to walk down Prospect St. It has a lot of high end art studios and shops. Stop and one of the cafes and have a cappuccino and watch the people go by. Eat dinner at the La Valencia.

You can go south of the Border to Tijuana. If you do take the trolley to the border, walk across and then take a taxi to Revelucion St. It's a tourist street. You can buy all sorts of stuff there. Don't get off the main drag or you can run into trouble! Eat at any of the street cafes but don't drink the water.

There is a Holiday Inn on Point Loma Blvd that is affordable and it is central to all the places that you might be going.

If you go to North Island (Coronado) then check out the Hotel Del Coronado. It's and old wooden hotel with A lot of character. There are public beaches there and you can look across and see the Point Loma Light house if you look to the north and if you look to the south you can see Imperial Beach.

Carlsbad is nothing to write home about. It a beach town were a lot of Marines hang out (Camp Pentalton is near by). It can be a rough area depending on were you go.

If you like museums then you can go to Balboa Park. The park it'self beautiful. It hosted a worlds fair years ago. When you go there take the 8 to the 163 south so that you can see the park from the point of view of the highway, You'll be glad you did.

After you visit San Diego you will want to live there. But when you take a look at the price of living it looses it's charm. Well, San Diego may be Americas finest City, but the blue sky up above is very expensive for those who choose to live there.
Best hotel in San Diego for the money is the Hilton Mission Bay. Best Hotel at any price is the Loews Coronado. The Hotel del Coronado is nice and is overpriced. Sometimes the Catamaran on Mission Bay has some really good deals on rooms and that place is great too. If you have points for free stays then there is both a Hyatt and a Marriott in down town SD, but I wouldn't pay full price for either. All Mission Valley hotels are mediocre and all La Jolla hotels are way overpriced.Things to do in San Diego?
The San Diego Wild Animal Park is a great place to visit. Also, head to Old Town for some delicious food and great shopping. Visit The Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado Island. It's a very interesting place to visit. Take a harbor cruise while in San Diego.
