What are the cool, political, artsy neighbrhoods in San Diego?

Where one can walk to all the cool bars and restaurants. What are the cool, political, artsy neighbrhoods in San Diego?
As the other writer suggested, Hillcrest is a cool, politically active and artsy neighborhood. It does have some great restaurants and bars all within walking distance. It is also is within walking distance of all the great museums within Balboa Park. It was, and to some extent still is, the center for the gay community, so there may be a higher concentration of "gay bars" there. But, that's neither here nor there.

Here are some other suggestions as well:

The Gaslamp District in downtown San Diego has great bars, clubs and restaurants with a wide variety of pricing and style of dress. Live music or DJ's.

Pacific Beach, just blocks from the ocean, has numerous laid back bars and live music.

Ocean Beach is a very cool, laid back, politically active neighborhood with an active live music and bar scene.

You'll find art studios in each one of these neighborhoods.
HillcrestWhat are the cool, political, artsy neighbrhoods in San Diego?
None, move to a real city like I did. Hillcrest is turning into a ghost town anyway and is WAY overpriced. I am an artist and could not afford that cesspool of a "city". Who wants to stay in a place where most bars are closed by 1 AM?

What are some good hotels in San Diego?

What are some hotels that are beautiful, with good service that have or are near some great restaurants?

We are having a wedding on the beach behind the Del Coronado ans we want a hotel and restaurant that are near each other that are nice. What are some good hotels in San Diego?
There are lots of great hotels and restaurants in San Diego. If you want to stay in Coronado, take a look at this list of Coronado hotels: http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=hot鈥?/a>

Congratulations on your wedding! What are some good hotels in San Diego?
San Diego is small and there are so many restaurants and hotels. La Valencia Hotel is where my daughter and her husband stayed for their wedding night. They loved it and its right in the middle of La Jolla. Lots of window shopping and the hotel is on the beach. Godd luck to you both many blessings.

I need to find a nice reasonable restaurant for prom in san diego?

For Italian I'd say either "Godfather's" in Clairemont or "Ottavio's" in El Cajon. Both do fantastic food and are priced fairly well.

For Steak I still say "Rei Do Gado" downtown ( www.reidogado.net ). The price is fine considering everything that you get.

If price wasn't an issue I'd say "Ruth's Chris Steakhouse" downtown. Best steak I've had in a restaurant and the service is unmatched. It will, however, cost you plenty to eat here...I need to find a nice reasonable restaurant for prom in san diego?
Moose McGillycuddy's, is a fun atmosphere.
bali hai in shelter island. the food is affordable but the view of san diego bay is priceless.I need to find a nice reasonable restaurant for prom in san diego?
yardhouse is pretty good.

reasonably priced and you get what you pay for.
When I went to the prom way back in the day, my date and I went to Corvette's diner over in Hillcrest. The place was fun and far from expensive and it's still in business. In the events that's not your cup of tea you can try this site for more answers. Sign on San Diego.com. Good Luck.
Rei Do Gado..Brazilian Steakhouse, the best
jenny, your date should be doing the footwork and finding somewhere to take you! i'm all about feminism and girls making their own decisions, but let him take YOU out! and enjoy-- prom is the best. i planned mine too..!

What are the differences between San Diego and San Francisco?

I am thinking of moving and really need to know the differences between these two cities as far as scenery, nightlife, weather, beaches, restaurants, etc.. ThanksWhat are the differences between San Diego and San Francisco?
San Diego is better, of course i live here, but been to San Francisco.

Beaches are better, no argument, so is weather (If you prefer warm weather)

San diego has a decent night life, just dont move too far North in san diego, too far from the night life.

great scenery, less expensive, cheaper to park your car.

San Francisco is knownfor great restraunts, but san diego is great for that too. What are the differences between San Diego and San Francisco?
As far as beaches and weather, SD wins those ....

I love Roscoe's Chicken N Waffles. Where can I find a restaurant in San Diego that serves Chicken N Waffles?

Just drive to the one in Long Beach.

Nothing beats Roscoe's and I love the one in Hollywood.

YummyI love Roscoe's Chicken N Waffles. Where can I find a restaurant in San Diego that serves Chicken N Waffles?
Sad to say there is not a Roscoes as of yet.. you might try

Perry's Cafe

Located just beyond Old Town, near the I-5/8 interchange, Perry's Cafe is a trucker's type of diner. I think it used to be an old Sambo's (remember that forgotten chain?), and it has a devoted clientele. They swear the pancakes - along with the other hearty fare are the best and are the main reason people keep coming back. Worth a try, you never know, maybe you can teach them about Chicken and Waffles.

I LOVE Roscoes !!! But sadly the BEST Chicken and Waffles ive had was at Hash House a GoGO in Hillcrest...

- They serve large portions and in their waffles has pieces of bacon which you can have without.. its also good with their mash potatoes...

But anyway you have to order their "Fried Sage Chicken with Waffles!!! i SWEAR by it!

  • I'm going to San diego on monday and iwas hoping some of the locals could point me away from touristy spots?

I don't want to spend my whole vacation walled up in some mass built resort there. any cool local spots to go hang out and have a couple of beers? any good restaurants or take away? cool things to do besides seaworld?I'm going to San diego on monday and iwas hoping some of the locals could point me away from touristy spots?
Kayla pretty much covered it, but she left out a few places. Old town and the Gaslamp. Yes both are touristy, but locals go there a lot too, just not on the weekends if they are smart! In Old town I would recomend several places. 1.) the tortilla factory 2.) Casa De Pico 3.) Coyote Cafe. There are also several gourmet tequilla bars and tons of shops, you might want to try that if you are looking for something unique. In the gaslamp if you want something kind of fun and low brow (think maxim magazine) I recomend Dick's Last resort. The gaslamp has tons of other places if Dick's isn't quite your speed. Here is a little tip to avoid the outrageous parking prices. If you have a car, go to Hazzard Center, it's in Mission Valley. Park on the very bottom level of the parking garage and walk accross the street to the Trolley Station. From there take the trolley to either old town or the gaslamp whatever your pleasure is and when you're done take it back. It's cheaper even with a trolley ticket, fairly safe, and a lot easier than fighting the traffic and parking in either old town or the gaslamp. Considering you used the phrase take-away I'm guessing you're from Europe. I've been there several times and kind of know how it is in there cities. San Diego isn't like that. It's not centralized. It's like a bunch of small towns kind of sprouted up and grew closer together. There is no one area where everyone goes to hang out. each neighborhood kind of specializes in it's own thing. Also Hillcrest is nice too. Great shops, a theatre and restraunts, but it is the gay neighborhood. If you are straight probably not the best place to pick up people.

A couple of other places, both are touristy, but good shopping.

Sea Port Village and Horton Plaza.
A few beaches I love would be Marine Street in La Jolla or Windansea, Pacific %26amp; Mission Beach are more tourists spots with Belmont Park. Ocean Beach is a cool little hippie area(stoner zone), with some cute shops like, The Black and Lighthouse Ice Cream, and Hodads Burgers is amazing! Sunset Cliffs in Point Loma is cool. Seaworld, Legoland, the Zoo, WIld Animal Park are all big tourist areas....whatevs. Fashion Valley Mall has great shopping, it's getting remodeled right now but there are still a lot of cool high end shops. You have to get Mexican food from Taco Fiesta, it will change your life.

Also George's at the Cove and Island Prime are really cool restaurants! Check them out.. if you are willing to pay a lot.. :]I'm going to San diego on monday and iwas hoping some of the locals could point me away from touristy spots?
if I were you I would take a walk down newport avenue in Ocean Beach. All "the locals" love to shop there, and there is a really good restrauntat the waterfront called "shades". Or go to the tidepools at the very end of Sunset Cliffs blvd, theres even a small beach which hardly ever has many tourists. Theres an amusment park in Mission Bay called "Belmont Park", theres tons to do there!

    have fun(:

Sorry Mina, I wish I could help you, but I'm not from around there, but I think you are very intelligent for wanting to meet responsible, dedicated, brave servicemen that put there life on the line everyday to protect the freedoms of this country. P.s. don't listen to those other haters that don't have the b*lls to serve this great country. Good luck:)
Just go to your local liquor store. Most guys in the military are alcoholics so that you be a pretty good place to run into one. (You might think I am kidding, but believe me, I am not.) How will the San Diego Chargers do this year?

    GOOD NEWS:

    * We have the best running back in the game.

    * We have the best tight end in the game.

    * We have the best pass rushers in the game.

    * We have the highest scoring offense in the game.

    * We had the best record last year 14-2.

    * We rebuilt our wide receiver core

    BAD NEWS:

    * We lost defensive coordinator Wade Phillips

    * We lost offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.

    * We lost Marty Shottenheimer (could be good news too!)

    * We lost Donnie Edwards to KC (led the team in tackles)

    * We have Norve Turner as our new head coach!

Looking at the schedule I personally think we have a shot at the Super Bowl. But it will be interesting to see if all the fairweather Charger fans with their #21 jerseys still show up to bars and restaurants on Sundays if we're 0-2 after potential losses to Chicago and New England! If we can go 2-0, I think it's ours to lose! How will the San Diego Chargers do this year?
13-3 record and Super Bowl Champs.

Depth at all positions better than most in AFC.

This is now a "players" team vs. Marty's team. It is strictly up to the player leadership how well they will do. I believe it is now time for LT, Merriman, Phillip Rivers, and Antonio Gates to step up their locker room and field leadership roles and put the onus of this season on them vs. the new coaching staff. No more excuses. But they are ready. Merriman will be a player posssessed in that role.

Winning the Super Bowl... I can see it... I have no worries saying it.
Dude thanks.... And have no worries going 2-0 or 0-2. Those two teams back to back at the front end are vicious. Just hope the Chargers stay healthy and win those games in November and December. That's when the cream of the crop rises in the NFL.

How will the San Diego Chargers do this year?
As a San Diego fan myself I think the chargers will win the super bowl. I hate the fairweather fans in san diego also.
    12-4 AFC West Championship
Chargers will get pass the 1st round in the playoffs. I say they will go 11-5 this season.
Losing twice to the Chiefs that is the only thing we know for sure this early in the offseason. If you think you have the best Tight End in the game you need to wake up, there is only one Hall of Fame tight end playing currently. A Tight End does need to know how to block just to let you know. Heap and Gates will be battling for the second best Tight End until TG retires sorry.
I think 12-4. Norv Turner is a good offensive coach, but he hasn't done too well as a HC.
    9-7 (miss playoffs)

Coaching is most important in football then in any other sport. Just way too much turnover and such a drastic downgrade from Marty to Norv that it'll cost them dearly.
The will not win the AFC West title but they will be a wild card team. I dont think they will be in the Superbowl
10-6 Wild Card, loss in wild card round to Cincinatti.

    Tomlinson 1550 yards, 18 touchdowns

    Rivers 3500 yards, 18 touchdowns

    Merriman 8 sacks

    Defense ranked 12th

And if you are 0-2 there will be effigies of AJ Smith burning in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot!
they r gonna be the same old chargers. make it to the playoffs and then lose....

by the way, y do u keep asking the same old question. they willl not win it. and the only reason to that is the head coach.

norve turner sucks. he can never be a head coach.
umm ....i think the chargers will win 11-12 games lose to NE week 2 and lose to them again in the AFC Championship.

I am leaving for California in a couple days, Can anyone give me advice on where to go in San Diego?

I am going to San Diego first, then we are going to San Francisco for a few days. I'm going with my boyfriend, but neither of us have ever been to CA, so I'm afraid we might miss out on some great stuff since we won't know where to go. Can anyone give me suggestions? I want to go to as many scenic places as possible, and to some nice beaches, restaurants, parks, etc. Any advice on where to go, park, visit, etc would be appreciated! Also, any advice on some cheap places as well? :) We want to go to nice places, but save some cash whenever possible because this trip is costing a fortune :)I am leaving for California in a couple days, Can anyone give me advice on where to go in San Diego?
San Diego Zoo, then on way north, Universal Studios is best in LA, take the coast up north and see Hearst Castle in San Simeon, go through 17 mile drive and stop in Monterey where the Aquarium rocks! Then head to Fisherman's Wharf and do the Alcatraz Tour in San Francisco. Those are my favorite things on that trip and I have lived here for 20 years.
To the san diego zoo...I am leaving for California in a couple days, Can anyone give me advice on where to go in San Diego?
San Diego zoo. Also next to that is Balboa Park which has lots of fun stuff.

In SF, the whole place is an amusement park.
OOOOOH! GO TO SEA WORLD! AND THE ZOO! And for great food, go to Little Italy. For a more cultural setting, go to Balboa Park....IT'S SO FUN!!!!! It's right next to the Zoo. A fun hotel is the W. HAVE FUN!
The San Diego Zoo is the best. Have Fun
Go out on a fishing boat.

Tijuana is only an hour away.

When headed north go to Universal Studios Theme Park
san diego..........the moon buffet......great place to eat.......but i live in cali so i know really kool places.......first in san fransisco you'll wanna go on a ferry to the Alcatraz. then Fishermans Wharf.maybe chinatown.......then at sunset......the beach. so romantic. talk to me.
San Diego zoo, the Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village, Seaworld, Balboa Park. Stay at Motel 6 on Hotel Circle. Take a qucik day trip down to Mexico.
The standard places here are the zoo, the Wild Animal Park and Seaworld. What kind of restaurants are you looking for? There is something for every taste and price. There are several different tours available, Seal tour uses an old amphibious craft and goes on land and on the bay. There is the Harbor Excursion which is pretty cool. You'll want to visit Seaport village and the Embaradero for touristy shopping. If you have any specific questions, just contact me, I'm one of the few native San Diegans left!
Go to the Harbor and get on the Old Town Trolley. It is an on and off tour that can be picked up at 8 different places. It is 2 hours if you stay on and don't get off. It even takes you to Coronado Island. It's worth the ride. They tell you all about San Diego and you get to see a lot of SightsIn Downtown . You will see the Zoo as it is a stop. You can get on and off all day, stopping at the places you want.
I live in California, kind of close to San Francisco. You picked a great time to visit! The weather is really perfect right now. I live more inland, where it's almost 90, but San Francisco will be in the low to mid-70's.

Be sure to visit the Golden Gate bridge, of course. You'll be able to see for miles in this weather. And Fisherman's Wharf. That's always nice. Sausalito is nice too. You get there by crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. If you've never been to Berkeley, that would be a nice cheap sight-seeing trip, just walking around Telegraph Avenue. I grew up in Berkeley. What a trip! Enjoy your visit!
San Diego zoo, Balboa Park, Sea World. On certain days, some of the museums in Balboa park are free. Coronado and La Jolla have the best beaches, I think. For nice restaurant (although pricey), try George's at the Cove or the Marine Room in La Jolla. They have made the Gaslamp area in downtown really nice. Fashion Valley is the best mall in San Diego. Seaport Village can be a fun place to walk around.
You have to visit the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld. Awesome places to go!! Do not go to legoland. That's the biggest waste of money to mankind. My son hated it and the rides are beyond slow. Also visit the Aircraft Carrier downtown. It's a museum and you get to walk around and see how it feels to be in the Navy. I was on one and when I take people there they can't believe how big it is. Enjoy!!! Lot's of good eating downtown around the Gas lamp district. Also that's were a lot of clubs and bars are to.
While in San Diego, check out the Gaslamp district for lots of eating and shopping choices. We ate at a chic pizza place there called Sammy's. Horton Plaza is a really nice outdoor mall not to far from the Gaslamp district. You can also do a harbor cruise for some breathtaking photo ops of the city skyline, as well as some interesting history. Cross the bridge to Coronado Island and you'll find some nice public beaches. There is also a great ice cream place there called Moo Time Creamery. If you like museums, Balboa Park has every possible museum you'd ever want to go to, plus it's a really nice place to take a walk (or drive). If you have time, take a drive up to La Jolla -- it's postcard beaufiful! Plus there are awesome shopping and dining choices there as well.

What are the must-sees of San Diego?

We are planning a trip to San Diego in April. While we've been there before as a couple, we haven't had a vacation with the baby (who will be almost a year old when we go). What are the sights we can't miss? (I know about the Zoo and Sea World, I'm looking for things that aren't necessarily tourist attractions, like museums or historical sites, etc.) Restaurant recommedations would be great, too. What are the must-sees of San Diego?

Consider buying a day pass for the trolley. You can see everything from Old Town to the Mexico border and inland for miles.

Another interesting trip is the Coaster from downtown to Oceanside. You will see beaches that you could never see from the road and Oceanside has a pier and harbor areas that are pretty cool. http://gonctd.com

    Have fun.
There are many museums, gardens, and other attractions in Balboa Park.

You will find some great wineries located around Escondido and more in Ramona and the historic town of Julian. Most do not charge for wine tasting. Julian is an old gold mining town known today for its bed and breakfasts, apple pies, and interesting shops.

Drive to the top of Mt. Soledad in La Jolla for a panoramic view of the city and the coast.

Take a bay cruise or the ferry from downtown San Diego over to Coronado Island ($6 roundtrip).

Visit Old Town and Presidio Park.

Bike along the coast. You will find bike rentals on Coronado and Mission Bay areas.

Get a fabulous dessert at Extraordinary Desserts on 5th Avenue....not far from Balboa Park.

Watch the sunset as you dine at George's Outdoor Terrace Bistro in LaJolla.

Have a great time! What are the must-sees of San Diego?
Old Towne San Diego, Balboa Park and all the museums there, Pacific Beach and Point Loma. If you have time, drive up to La Jolla. Anthony's has good seafood and Madras Cafe is good and vegetarian. Have fun!
Old town San Diego is nice, there are several great restaurants there and its an area which you can walk around and go to alot of little shops. Also the gas lamp district is interesting (good restaurants there too) and there is a huge 4 story (I think its 4 story) mall (but once you've been to a mall, you been to them all). Have a great trip!

Balboa Park, the San Diego Wild Animal Park, Legoland, and even Julian, CA in the mountains are awesome places.

Old Town is cool too. It's sort of a historical landmark and it has some awesome Mexican restaurants.
Go to Balboa Park, the zoo is near there, the Museum of Man is there along with the Aerospace Museum. You will also find the original housing for the Olympics, I think 1909. (They were built as temporary structures.)

Go to Old Town, nice little shops, historical area, GREAT Mexican food restaurant where you eat outside, you will see it, it's huge.

Go to Mission Beach, the Gaslamp District, and the University. Definately take the one hour harbor excursion.

  • Looking for a great beachfront hotel in San Diego?

I am going to be in San Diego from August 22nd till the 26th with my girlfriend. It is her first time seeing the ocean and I want to try to get a beachfront room. Can anyone recommend a great hotel for our stay? Some of the ones I have researched are" Paradise Point, Hotel Coronado, The Pacific Terrace Hotel, and the Marriot on Coronado Island.

Also any great restaurant recommendations would be great, we aleady booked a dinner cruise with san diego harbor excursions.

Thanks in advance!Looking for a great beachfront hotel in San Diego?
Yeah, the Hotel Del rocks, but is super pricey. The Hyatt at Mission Beach is pretty cool too, and will save you a few dollars. It is on Mission Bay, so the water is warmer and not as rough. Sunday brunch at the Hotel Del is awesome, and then you can see the island and the grounds without having to stay there. As for restaurants...WOW, there are so many. If you head down to the Gaslamp District, all have menus displayed outside so you can see what they have and the costs. Unless they are empty, I will try things at random and have never been disappointed. If you head to La Jolla, there is a very small, hotel just across the street from the Hardrock. The name escapes me now, but it is an awesome hotel (although not beachfront, but oceanfront/view) and they have an absolutely fabulous restaurant in it!! Have a blast!
Hotel Del Coronado, is by far the best for what you're looking for.

For dinner, check out Mr. A's downtownLooking for a great beachfront hotel in San Diego?
I agree, Coronado is the best. Miguel's Cocina is a great Mexican restaurant there (accross the street in the courtyard behind Brigantine - it's kind of hidden). Coronado is Pricey, though. La Valencia in La Jolla is nice too...still pretty pricey - although not literally right on the beach. The Hilton San Diego Resort is right on the Bay...like Paradise Point...those aren't really on the open ocean. Also the Hotels on Harbor Island have a nice view....but those again are on the harbor...not the beach.....but the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club is right on the beach....but the Del is extra special!
    http://rhoda.joystar.com/Hotel.aspx?Agen鈥?/a>
Hotel Del is special, but it's pretty old and the fixtures are evident of it. You can walk through it without staying in it. The Coronado Marriott is really beautiful! Full luxury! And just across the Coronado bridge so you can get into downtown easily for a baseball game, visit to the gaslamp, etc.

For restaurants we love Peohe's on Coronado. Mr. A's in downtown is really special too, but be prepared to spend a bit of $! 5th %26amp; Hawthorn is a bit older and lower key, but they have a great prix fixe menu for around $50 for 2 that includes a bottle of wine.

For entertainment, Triple Espresso is hilarious! Try to get tickets if you've never seen it. And of course hit some of the beautiful beaches! If you're a golfer, Coronado and Torrey Pines are beautiful courses....right on the coast!
or try the La Jolla Beach and tennis club. The rooms are actually on the beach and a large area or the beach is privately owned by the hotel so you can have private bbq's in the evening. I saw dolphins swim past as we were having breakfast there, we always honeymoon at the La Jolla Beach and tennis club as it is very romantic. I have also stayed at the Hotel Del and it is a lovely hotel and spa but this gives you another chioce, if you choose one of these two you will have a great time.
try booking here for best deals http://www.hotelsnresorts.com/
For beachfront, I would say the Hotel Del. It's a lovely place. Paradise Point is one of my favorite hotels but it is actually on the bay not the ocean. I would recommend one of these two. George's at the Cove in La Jolla or the Marine Room are really nice restaurants. The Marine Room is right on the beach, it has actually been flooded several times and during high tide the waves come up close to the windows.
if price isn't an object ............the Hotel Del is the spot . quite romantic ...........alot of history there as well .............and on the beach .

    best of luck !

    cheers !

I am a 40 year old single woman relocating to San Diego. I was wondering about good places to live.?

I can't afford to spend more than $350K on a home. I will be working in La Jolla and do not want more than a 30 min commute. I have no children but 2 dogs and would like some outdoor space for them and I like cafe bars and cool restaurants with an older crowd. I would rather not live in a student or family community what options do I have? Thanks for any guidance you can give.I am a 40 year old single woman relocating to San Diego. I was wondering about good places to live.?
You can't get much of a home (maybe a condo at the most) within 30 minutes of La Jolla for $350K in a neighborhood that you would even consider living in. I think you should get a place to rent fairly close to La Jolla (look in the Clairemont 92117 area for the best place to live that's close to La Jolla and at a decent price), and then go check out all of the neighborhoods that you can afford to see if any of them appeal to you. You would be making a mistake buying a place out here without knowing about the neighborhood the house is in. And, I think you would be pretty disappointed when you actually find out what that $350K will get you out here.I am a 40 year old single woman relocating to San Diego. Kingston Ave is good. Very nice homes along the ocean, and affordable.

The Brigantine, on Harbor Drive in Pt Loma fits this description, perfectly. Now, having said that, you have to be a little careful what you order. The salads are actually great. They are big and full of delicious ingredients. The fish tacos are also good. The sandwiches are mediocre.

What are some cool things to do in san diego?

I am going to be there from thursday July 30th to monday august 10th.

I can't do much on weekdays, but on the weekends I would love to do something cool.

Please don't suggest the zoo or sea world.

I have already been and I don't want to do anything too expensive.

Anyway, I would really appreciate some suggestions on the cheaper side.

I also would love some suggestions for where to eat.

So if you know of any good restaurants or somewhere that I can't pass up, please tell me.What are some cool things to do in san diego?
I definitely recommend Mount Soledad in La Jolla. On a clear day from the cross you can see the entire San Diego metro clear south to Tijuana.

It is 100% free and is an extremely relaxing experience if you aren't deathly afraid of heights.

Pacific Beach and Mission Beach are really awesome places to go. The beaches are clean, except for the normal seaweed, and the sand and water is usually warm. There are also plenty of attractive people, bars, clubs, restaurants, shops, and an amusement park (Belmont Park in Mission Beach)!! I definitely recommend Felippi's Pizza Grotto in Pacific Beach for the best Italian food. It is at 962 Garnet Ave and the phone is (858) 483-6222鈥?

Fashion Valley Mall on Friars Road in Mission Valley is one of the best malls in Southern California and the best in San Diego. It is like a Rodeo Drive or Champs-脡lys茅es in mall form! It is definitely the place to go if you are into stuff like that, or you can just enjoy a nice walk in an awesome mall.

La Jolla Cove on Coast Boulevard in La Jolla is a really cool beach to watch sea lions, and an awesome sunset beach. While you are there you should also check out downtown La Jolla and drive along La Jolla Boulevard back into Pac Beach.

Coronado is definitely an experience to remember. The island is a complete island city, complete with main street shops, a luxurious hotel (Hotel Del Coronado), and great atmosphere. The bridge to get to the island also offers amazing free views of downtown San Diego and the bay, but you can only drive across it and traffic is usually moderately heavy.

Taking a drive to the border is a unique experience as well. The San Ysidro Border is the busiest in the world, and is great for taking pictures of culture and society. There is also a great outlet center, Las Americas Premium Outlets, on Camino De La Plaza. There are many designer labels and mall labels that offer clothes and merchandise for prices that can't be resisted.

Seaport Village in downtown is another relaxing place to go and walk around. There are shops and a waterfront walkway. You can watch ships, planes, helicopters, traffic, people, and the skyline of downtown while you shop or eat or just relax.

Balboa Park in general is a pretty great place, and some of the museums have free days.

Hmm, can't think of anything more. Good luck! Have fun!
Thank you guys so much. I am still open for more ideas if you have them

I have to say that I was surprised by the amount of feedback I got.

I didn't know this was possible, but I am even more excited to go now!

There is an awesome restaurant in the Ocean Beach area called Shades.. GREAT food and you sit on the patio with a view of the ocean. Not cheap, but not expensive either. You take one of the buses from the Old Town trolley stop, I can't remember which one though. 35 maybe?? Anyway, it says Ocean Beach on it. Also there is the beach there (obviously) and some shops.

The prettiest beach I saw was La Jolla, but you have to take like an hour bus ride to get there. I guess I keep assuming you won't have a car, if you do things may be easier for you! My sister and I did a kayak cave tour for like 45 bucks each that was really awesome. There are a few stores down by the beach to rent kayaks, snorkeling gear, kickpaddles, etc.

I also like the Old Town are if you just want to look in some shops (they have alot of stuff from Mexico).
You should go to the beaches, there are some great ones over here and the car fee is a good price.I'd recommend going to Coronado beach,it's beautiful, barley any seaweed and I believe it's free. There's also Imperial Beach,it's okay,La Jolla is great too they have the tidepools there. But Cornado is my personal favorite.

You probably shouldn't go to Silver Strand.Last time I went, there was loads of Sea Weed and flies everywhere.Every time I went into the water,my leg always got stuck in something, sucks for boogie boarding.

You can also go to Knotts Soak City,a lot of great rides and it's 20$ for a kids ticket and about 27$ for adults(I think). One ticket lets you go on any ride you want, until they close at 6pm.A lot of great rides, try the Pacific Spin :)

There's a whole pile of things to do in SAn Diego, and soem of it is free too. You've already heard a lot of them:

Beach: I would suggest La Jolla Cove for walking along board walk and watching ocean crash into sandstone cliffs - wild seals etc.

Seaport Village: quaint shopping distric with cool boutiques to browse through. Also can walk along Embarcadero with street art, boats etc.

Old Town and Presidio Park. Old Town is CA birthplace where you will find CA first brick house, CA first school house, CA first African American business, etc. Presidio Park is now just a lovely lovely green space.

    http://www.san-diego-travels.com/old-tow鈥?/a>

Balboa Park: huge urban park with awsome architecture. Walkways and gardens are free, museums are not free, but not terribly expensive either. Some museums free on Tuesdays.

    Good luck, play safe.
You definitely want to have dessert at Extraordinary Desserts. They are open quite late....around midnight is closing. 2 can easily share a dessert.

An inexpensive boat cruise is Bahia Belle. For only $10 you can cruise back and forth across Mission Bay from the Bahia Resort to the Catamaran Resort. In the evening they have live music. They also have a bar.You can get off and then back on.

Have a beach bonfire. You can do this on any beach that has fire rings. Bring your own supplies. It's easier to find an empty fire ring on weeknights. My favorite area is Fiesta Island or drive all the way around the Bahia Resort in Mission Bay. Theres a public parking lot in the back and the beach has a number of fire rings.

Enjoy Happy Hour at Casa Guadalajara on Taylor Street in Old Town. It's 4-7 Monday-Friday. They have great margaritas (only $3 the last time and I went) and FREE appetizers. You won't need to eat dinner....!

Make reservations to dine at George's Outdoor Terrace Bistro while the sun is setting. It's a spectacular sunset overlooking La Jolla Cove. This is a casual dining place. They save some of the seats for walk ins, but will fill half of the seats by reservation....ask for a table overlooking the cove.

Las Quatras Milpas on Crosby Street, next to Barrio Park is amazing and very authentic.

Ranchos, Pokies, and the taco shop at Adams and Park for vegetarian friendly food.

Super Cocina on University Ave, between 805 and 15 - Mexico City style food.

Valentine's Taco Shops for their salsa and chile relleno burrito. It's also between the touristy taco shop on India and a good one on San Diego Ave, across the street from the funky art supply store.

Try Hernandez Hideaway by Lake Hodges which is near Escondido. Also, the chain Rubio's has great stuff for a fast-food place. Try the fish tacos. It may sound nasty if you've never had one (that's what I thought when I first heard "fish taco"), but they're yummy!

im not sure how affordable you need.. but the better areas would be bonita/eastlake.. la jolla.. lotta shops in mission beach area and la jolla...

you can find more affordable places in a lot of other places that are not bad neighborhoods. la mesa would be a good start to look. like off normal ave (lemon ave to maple ave etc;)

Moving to Chicago from San Diego. Where r the best areas to live that are happening and exciting?

I just got a degree in business with an emphasis in management. i would like to live in the city where everything is happening. I would like to be in an area where there is bars, restaurants, clubs, venues etc. At the same time I want to be close to the financial districts to land a job.Moving to Chicago from San Diego. Where r the best areas to live that are happening and exciting?
There are bars, clubs and restaurants everywhere. Chicago is a very 'neighborhood-y' city...there are lot of large neighborhoods with smaller more defined ones inside of that.

If you want an active night life scene near the financial district, try RIver North, West Loop or Gold Coast. The first two are walking distance to the Loop; the Gold Coast is maybe a 15 minute train ride down.

These neighborhoods are not cheap. If you are looking to rent...expect to pay about $1000 for a studio, $1500 1bd and so on. If you are looking to buy, depending on finishes, you would be pressed to find something you really want for less than $300k (small 1bd). Of course, there are bargains to be found, just depends on what you are willing to sacrifice.

I used to rent a 700 sq. ft. 1bd East of Michigan Ave. in Streeterville (sub-neighborhood of Gold Coast) for $1195, there we're no amenities, window a/c's, crap kitchen and not the best apartment...but the location was nice for the time I was working up there.

Hope this helps! I'll check back soon!
PB (Pacific Beach) is where alot of young people/college age people live and party. It's gorgeous but of course expensive. A one bedroom will be around $1,000/mo if you can even find one or find a job. But good luck anyways.

Edit- my bad I read wrong, thought you were moving TO san diego! sorry!Moving to Chicago from San Diego. Where r the best areas to live that are happening and exciting?
Loop, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, River North, Streeterville, and Near North are neighborhoods are to look into.
That covers a lot of ground but Mission Valley or anywhere near the beach leaps to mind.
LOL good luck with the finance sector

they have the formal dinning and the casual dinning area. great service, awesome food!!

when it come to dessert, you should check out the EXTRAORDINARY DESSERTS
Here are two of my favorites:

Corvette's Diner in Hillcrest (a fifty's style dine: loud %26amp; fun. Waiters all wear bizzare wigs and throw straws and bazooka bubble gum at customers. A D.J is there nightly ready to take oldies requests.)

For a unique but classier dining experience try Forever Fondue in La Jolla. The entire menu is composed of different fondue options. Very interesting and unique. http://foreverfonduerestaurants.com/index.asp
Where would I go to propose to my girlfriend?

    George's at the Cove.
YardHouse in the gaslamp area. It has a great asian-american fusion menu that is loaded with anything you may want. The best appetizer is the California Roll that 4 people can share. A great dinner available is the crab crusted swordfish on a bed of wasabe mashed potatoes. Unbelievable desserts are also available. They have classic rock playing with a full bar and over 130 beers on tap that can all be purchased by the yard if you so choose. The menu consists of everything from salad to seafood to steak to burgers. The average dinner would cost you about 20 dollars and you will most likely not be able to eat it all because portions are very large. My wife and I are usually out of there wilth dinner, dessert, drinks, and tip for easily under 100 dollars. Great aptmosphere and never a long wait.
    Cafe Japengo

    in La Jolla/UTC area

The best sushi you will ever find plus amazing, creative fushion menu

    Great atmosphere as well
Well Joes Crab Shack's enviroment and food is by far the best I have EVER had and Corvettes in Hillcrest is hip fun and AWESOME! So depend on what your style is

What Should I Do In San Diego?

I'm putting together a day trip to San Diego (I'm from L.A.) and I wanted to know, what should I do while I'm there? Where are the good restaurants? The best stretch of beach? What do I HAVE to do/see while I'm there? FYI: I'm 26 and I'm going with my 2 sisters. What Should I Do In San Diego?
My husband and I just went to San Diego last week. We are in LA, Louisiana not Los Angeles. Our daughter and her hubby live there.

If you love a good rib dinner, go to Phil's. It is unbelievable. Also, Tony Roma's is good for ribs.

We love going to visit the Hotel Del Coronado and shopping on the island. We ate lunch at Pioche's, I think that is how it is spelled.

We went on a short tour of the bay on the Hornblower a few years ago. We were going to go to Balboa Island but didn't have enough time. If the Padre's are playing, take in a game at the new baseball park.

Seaport village is wonderful! Beautiful and full of every kind of shop you can imagine.

We went to Old Town and did some shopping. I love that place. You can go to Seaworld and the zoo.

Go see the sun set in LaJolla on the cliffs.

Go to the old Point Loma Lighthouse.

Mission Beach is wonderful and you can ride the roller coaster!

Well since your from LA you probably want to go to the beach where there are less of the picture taking tourists. Try Pacific Beach and the Garnet bar scene is really laid back and fun at night. Also OB is really mellow, try eating at Hodads its the best burger place right in the heart of OB (Ocean Beach). The Gaslamp Quarter is fun but much more upscale and expensive. If your looking for a laid back fun place try Basic Pizza its a bar at night and a really fun. I also like going to the Field (an authentic Irish pub) or Tilted Kilt is a great place too. The Ivy and Hard Rock are more upscale but have a fun atmosphere too. During the day, Theres the usual Sea World and the Zoo. Fashion Valley is a great mall resembles the Grove (the stores they have there) Horton Plaza is right in the heart of Downtown so its great to go to if your staying with that scene. Garnet Ave in Pacific Beach has great boutiqu shopping if your more into that. If you want a great restaurant and arent afraid to pay more for an amazing view, I would suggest Mr As in Downtown or Peohes in Coronado Island. They both have unbelievable views of San Diego that you will absolutely never forget and the food is definately worth the price. Hope this helps! What Should I Do In San Diego?
As for beaches: Anywhere in Encinitas, way better than the deathtrap of the Mission Beach party scene. Try San Elijo if you're in that region. Also, Torrey Pines is awesome, really chill. And if your from LA, I'm guessing you've had a lot of mexican food. But, if you haven't had a California burrito, try one while you're here. My favorite place is JV's Taco Shop, but pretty much any taco shop should have them. I had a California burrito up in San Bernardino and it wasn't anywhere near as good as the ones down here. If you get one, make sure it has carne asada, fries, and guacamole.
I just went there for a short (but sweet) vacation! I had so much fun, I wish I could have stayed longer. I went to Casa Beach (a.k.a. The Children's Pool) in La Jolla and saw wild seals on the beach! They are the most adorable creatures and fun to observe. I've never seen any before, and I prefer to see them in the wild than at Sea World in captivity. I also hiked at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. It's a beautiful park on the coast. The trails are pretty easy; there are trails on the cliffs where the rare Torrey Pine trees grow, and a trail down to the beach. Be sure to see the visitor center, too. The La Jolla shores beaches were crowded, but I felt like I had plenty of space to myself at Torrey Pines (both places I visited on weekdays). I also went to Balboa Park, where there are art and science museums and botanical gardens.

You might want to try ocean kayaking by the La Jolla cliffs and caves. You can also sign up for surfing lessons. I didn't try those, but you might like to. :)

I hope you have the best trip ever and tons of fun!!!
well i went with my sister and we went to the gaslamp district and ate at this pretty cool australian themed place

    http://thebondi.com/

and theres an outdoor mall somewhere i cant remember where exactly but its really colorful and fun to go to

as for the beach... i went in winter :/

and theres also seaworld and the zoo if thats your thing

just some suggestions, i know other ppl from the area probably have more to offer
The beach is always fun. You can tour the USS Midway Ship...very cool. You can go on a ghost tour of the most haunted places in San Diego.

  • How are San Diego Chargers games like? How do I get there?

In December ill be driving from San Francisco to San Diego for a weekend. My main goal is to catch the Niner and Chargers game that weekend. My question is how are the Chargers games like? I never been to a Charger game. Also how is the parking their? Or should I take public transit?

Also Ill be staying in the downtown area, what are some things I can do at night for a few hours? any restaurant recommendations? (looking more on the cheap side, Im a college student now working part time lol) Any information will help! Thanks! How are San Diego Chargers games like? How do I get there?
FYI the Charger vs 49er game is a Thursday Night game with a 5:20 kickoff.

The best way to get to the stadium is by trolley. It leaves you right at the stadium gate. This is especially true for a Thursday night game during XMAS shopping season. Stores will be open late. There are lots of malls on Friars Road and in the vicinity of the stadium. That combined with the normal rush hour commute will make driving insane. I expect the stadium parking lot to be almost full by noon. On game day they sell all day trolley passes for $5. Parking at the stadium is $20 and, if you're not familiar with traffic patterns, it takes hours to get in and out of the place by car.

    http://www.sdmts.com/trolley/trolley.asp

As far as resturants, from downtown, you'll need to transfer at Old Town Transit Center to a different trolley line. One block away is one of the best pizza and Italian food resturants in town. Pizza Bella features home made Italian food made from Mama Bella's recipies. During the day their courtyard is open for outdoor dining. It's one block from the Old Town trolley stop. My suggestion is have a late lunch at Pizza Bella and head to the game around 3:00 PM. Gates open 2 hours before kickoff.

    http://www.yelp.com/biz/pizza-bella-san-鈥?/a>

Another great downtown place to eat is Kansas City BBQ. It's where they filmed the bar scene in Top Gun. It's right next to the Seaport Village trolley stop. Inexpensive and great food. Their beef brisket sandwich plate is one of my favorites.

Is there a chance i can get a job in San Diego at some hotels?

OK. Am from phils. and will be migrating to San Diego, CA. Im a graduate of BS Hotel and restaurant management....Is there a chance i can get a job in San Diego at some hotels?
The economy hasn't effected the tourism in San Diego yet. It is still a desirable place for Summer vacations and alot of conventions were booked in San Diego before the economy turned south so they are required to keep their commitments. Thanks to them, the hotels in downtown still get sold out on a regular basis. Plus, there is a high turn around in the hospitality industry. Try posting your resume on Jobing.com before you come to the states so you may have an interview lined up when you come. Some hotels have apllications available on their websites but a lot of them require you to go in to fill out an application. I would suggest applying downtown since that is where the majority of hotels are and they are seeing the most business right now. Good Luck!
Yes, you should be able to find a job there, but you will probably be surprised at the low salary. Expenses in SD are very high, so be prepared to live on a very tight budget.

Since San Diego is very tourist/service oriented, your chances of finding work should be pretty good. Follow all the established methods of job search, especially looking all day every day.

You could start now, by sending your resume to various employment agencies and sources you find online. Is there a chance i can get a job in San Diego at some hotels?
There are a few casinos in san diego with hotels and and restaruants, that maybe a good place to look as they pay well and have great benefits! There is Barona Valley Ranch Casino %26amp; Resort, Sycuan Casino, Harrah's Rincon and Pala Casino :) Good luck with the job hunt!
be ready for culture shock, san diego has very low wages, we call it "sunshine tax". Also rents are very high for very small places. crime is relatively low and city has nice places to go and keep you busy.

if you stay in san diego more than 4 years and are an active person, you'll get hooked on the best climate in the whole continental US.But getting use to california shallowness is not easy... you been warned.

by the way, i hope you are comfortable around people speaking spanish, population is about 45% latino.

oh, a good place to check for employment would be craigslist san diego , but i think corporate hotels hire trough their own web sites...
Sure, we let foreigners work here!

Seriously, I don't know exactly what hotels are hiring, but I know some are. Check out sdmarketplace.com--that's the SD Union-Tribune's advertising section and you can see what kind of jobs are out there.

Unemployment in CA is 10% so you may not find your dream job the first time around.

    Welcome to SD!
im at a san Diego hotel right now. ahah
just go to all the san diego hotels and ask if they are hiring

Okay well, Belmont Park is great. There is a restaraunt called North Shore Cafe, you can see the water right from your seat. When I was there the water was so beautiful. I was like.. we have THAT color water in SD? And I didn't know? :P And of course.. You can eat there for that beautiful sunset;)

Oh and fyi... Our sun is setting rli early over here... Like at 5pm it gets dark or starts to get dark I think.

But yea... In addition to the restaraunt... there is Belmont Park! Haha. Rollercoaster.. Boardwalk type of a thing. I think it's super cute. It has shops... Of course the beach is right there as well.. A nice heated indoor pool that is usually very quiet and very nice. Other rides, games, and now an indoor mini golf.

You can never go wrong with Ruth's Chris Steak House. If your not a meat eater you could also go to Kemo Sabe in Hillcrest for Fusion / Eclectic type food. Lastly, if your in San Diego, if you can't find something close to the waterfront, there is always Roy's in La Jolla which has great seafood. Okay, just one more, if you have never done the fondue thing, there is a place called The Melting Pot in La Jolla as well. Old Town in San Diego has some excellent Mexican food. It was the first time I had Chicken Mole. Wow! Good Luck and don't drink and drive.

The most unique thing about San Diego dining, I think, is Chef Debra Scott. I don't live in San Diego, so whenever I travel there I try to go to one of here three restaurants:

    1) Kemo Sabe, up in Hillcrest, is southwestern. Try the ravioli, or one of the huge salads, but save room for the chocolate lava cake for desert.

    2) Indigo Grill in Little Italy, kind of mexican but in a way you could never describe. Plank salmon, huge thick pork porterhouse, salads, pastas.

    3) Island Prime, on Harbor Island. Steaks, seafood.

All are incredibly good, and beautifully decorated with impeccable service.

Does anyone know a good restaurant near the San Diego airport?

There are also several Italian restaurants in "Little Italy."

You can also check out: http://www.sandiegorestaurants.com/

Tips and random good things about San Diego?

Hi! I'm hoping on moving to San Diego next year (pending my application to college) and am really excited since I love the city and it's miles of beautiful beaches, Balboa park, downtown and the weather.

Any tips, cool places, restaurants, shops, culture or just random things you can give about the city? anything is game! thanks!Tips and random good things about San Diego?
I suggest you get a zoo pass so you can go to the zoo and Wild Animal Park as much you want. I use to work in Balboa Park and the zoo was pretty cool to go to in the winter when there's hardly anyone there during the weekdays. I'd go there with my zoo pass just to eat lunch; would be the only one at an exhibit.

Another good thing to know is that on Tuesdays the museums take turns having free admission days; here's a link with the schedule http://www.balboapark.org/calendar/detai鈥?/a>

The zoo has one free day every October, I think, called Founders Day but don't go as it's so crowded it's not much fun.

Make sure you check the tide calendar before walking along the most beautiful stretch of beach in the county, the area from Torrey Pines State Park to Torrey Pines State Beach. Black's Beach is beautiful, but if you don't check the tide calendar first you could be trapped on a small beach when the tide rolls in and be unable to get your way back up.

Be sure to catch the Christmas time boaters Parade of Lights where people decorate their boats with lights and motor along the harbor.

Borrow or rent a kayak and take in a concert at Humphrey's Outdoor Summer Concert venue for free...or just pay the money for a regular seat.

Don't forget to kayak to La Jolla Caves in the summer when the water's warm enough to go swimming and snorkling to see the garabaldi and sharks.
My favorite thing in San Diego is definately the San Diego Zoo, you have to check that out and look at the Pandas! Ocean Beach is more of the college part, while Del Mar is the upscale part. There are tons of restaraunts downtown that you must check out. Also, check out "sea side villiage" next to the Hyatt hotel downtown San Diego, there is a great place to eat there that has the best pizza in the shape of a surfboard!Tips and random good things about San Diego?
One of my favorite things is to have a beach bonfire....roast marshmallows and make s'mores. For more info on beach bonfires visit http://www.sandiego-romantics.com/san-di鈥?/a>
If you are just moving here, one thing I would recommend doing is taking the Old Town Trolley Tour. You go to Old Town and buy an all day ticket for the Trolley. The Trolleys do a constant loop through 20 different places in San Diego every 15 minutes. They go through everywhere from the Zoo to Horton Plaza to Coronado.

You can get dropped off in one place and stay as long as you want. Then catch the next trolley. It's a great way to get to know the city. Good luck.
The San Diego Zoo is the most famous zoo in the world. The conservation work they do at both the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park are amazing!! They have kept so many species from going extinct and at CRES at the Wild Animal Park they store DNA from current (and I believe extinct) species, so someday a Jurassic Park experience could be real!!!

It's an awesome organization that does a lot of good things to help animals around the world.

Oh, and the avocados are the best because they come from SD County, mostly in Fallbrook but some in San Marcos. They are bursting with flavor, unlike the crummy ones from Chile that are picked too soon.
I alwas take my out of town visitors to the Mt. Soledad memorial. It is the best view of the city, and a wonderful breeze. There is also the wild animal park, zoo, La jolla shores, Hotel del Coronado, Pet-co park, and Sea World. You can always explore more beaches for diving, kayaking or other water sports.

Your best shopping are downtown, fasion valley, and many small areas like La Jolla and Old town.
Ok, I'm not going for best answer here, but honestly if you want really good mexican food, head to Juanitas, which is on the 101 in Encinitas. Fillibertos is down the street and is also really yummy. Also close by is Lou's Records, which I think is one of the best independent record stores in the nation (go buy CD's! stores like that need it!) Encinitas in general is onw of my favorite places in SD, because it has a really laid back surfer vibe, and lots of rad mom and pop shops everywhere.

    Good restaurant in San Diego?

We are visiting this weekend and need advice on good restaurants. Dinner for less than $20 a plate would be nice!

Kansas City Barbecue, at the marina. it's famous for the bar room / piano scenes in Top Gun. Good barbecue.Good restaurant in San Diego?
Cafe Sevilla on 4th near Market is good because they serve Tapas, which are appetizers, hot or cold and you share them between all of you. It's a really fun way to eat and each plate is from $5.95 - $8.00 meaning you could get 2 - 3 appetizers apiece and then have the variety of say 6 things for the two of you. Plus they have salsa dancing. Le Gran Tapas on B st (I think) has the same thing. If you've got kids, the Anthony's suggestion is perfect, because they have a kids menu and the kids can check out seals or birds and stuff while you're waiting for your table. They have the best chowder and my absolute favorite favorite salad a Crab Louie It's huge, with a mound of crab, and a couple of eggs, thousland island dressing and it's $15.00 but if you both got soup, you could easily split the salad..
    I know this will help!

You have an opportunity to see the menu before you go.

Locate in a neighborhood you like.

Take a photo tour to get an idea of the atmosphere.

    And get a good deal!

Use the San Diego Image provided on the following web site.
Hit the Italian area, try Hennessys, go over to Mexico, just ask!
Stop giving advice for chain restaurants! People dont come here to get advice on chain restaurants.

For under $20 per plate, I recommend the following local restaurants unique to San Diego:

    1) Saigon on Fifth Avenue (Vietnamese) in Hillcrest.

    2) DZ Akins (NY Style Deli) in the College Area

    3) Celedon (Thai) in Hillcrest

    4) Phil's BBQ (Informal dining) in Mission Hills. Way better than KC BBQ

    5) Adams Avenue Grill (American) in University Heights

    6) Korea House (Korean BBQ) in Kearny Mesa
Anthony's Downtown is good. Right next to the more expensive one is a small Fish and Chips place that is very good.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of The Reader. You can find them in most San Diego grocery stores (they're free). Inside you'll find all kinds of reviews and coupons for GREAT restaurants all over San Diego county.

My personal fave is Chateau Orleans ( on Turquoise St. - Pacific Beach). They always have a coupon, you can even go on-line to get one. The food is FAB!!! And just a couple of doors down is The French Gourmet, which is great for dessert or breakfast.

  • What is your favorite restaurant in San Diego, CA?

Sixth Avenue Bistro, downtown on 6th and B is my FAVORITE! Great food, resonable prices, and it's the kind of place anyone can walk into and feel comfortable. What is your favorite restaurant in San Diego, CA?
I like George's Outdoor Terrace in La Jolla. It has a fabulous view for watching spectacular San Diego sunsets. The price is not as high as their other "indoor" restaurant. Make reservations to sit near the ocean and time it so you are dining as the sun sets.

Diners actually applaud as the sun sinks into the Pacific.
    For steak i really like

"the butcher shop" its in kearny mesa.

Its well priced and has really good food. Not as good as mortons but its still really good for the price.

Sadaf in downtown has some good persian cusine as well. What is your favorite restaurant in San Diego, CA?
    Perniconos. It's in La Jolla.
My husband and I like to go to Il Fornaio in Coronado. They serve good, authentic, Italian Food. The view is fantastic and if you can get a table outside on a summer evening, it's a great place to just sit and have a glass of wine and enjoy our beautiful city.
Anthony's , Red Fox room on El Cajon Blvd. Spaghetti Factory in San Marcos.
    My 2 cents:

Steak: Ruth Chris / Claim Jumper (Downtown / La Mesa)

Italian: La Bella's Pizza Garden (Chula Vista)

Chinese: since Wing Wah in Chula Vista is gone :( ...don't know.

    Sandwich: Quiznos

Breakfast: Family House of Pancakes (National City)

All you can eat: Rei De Gado (downtown)

    ok, ok. . .i know...restaurant...if I HAD TO choose. . . Claim Jumper
Well the first one that comes to mind is Tio Lio's mexican restraunt. I just love their food and drinks. Its a place I go and treat myself and not too far away.
I really liked Filippi's Pizza Grotto in Little Italy - awesome pizzas and spaghetti. Once I got a meatball the size of a baseball with my ravioli. -So- good.
Point Loma Seafood is a long-time favorite, but Taste of Thai is awesome and Bombay is marvelous, both are in Hillcrest.
In Del Mar on Via De La Villa, go east about a mile east of the 5 there is a new resturant called Market. They only sure the freshest organic food from a farm two miles away. Once you eat there your spoiled for anything else you eat.lol.

You can also try Claim Jumpers. Look it up on the net for the closest one to you....
Never been there but if I had a choice I'd choose McDonalds lol
It really depends on what you are looking for...

The best pizza in San Diego would have to be Bronx Pizza in Hillcrest.

As far as steak, I would say The Butcher Shop in Chula Vista

For seafood, I would go for Point Loma Sea Food in Point Loma

Peohes in Coronado is also good for seafood and steak
    The Coronado Brewing Company
Indigo Grill - in Little Italy. Southwestern, eclectic, fabulous decor! Kind of expensive if you drink a lot, or order a lot of food, but I often get the Grilled Romaine Salad, listed as an appetizer, for my main course. It's $7.50, and filling enough so that I often can't eat desert. For main dishes, the mushroom pasta is fantastic, and the plank salmon is the best.
    samba grill
rei do gado for brazilian bbq!

    Restaurant in San Diego?

I will be celebrating my 20th birthday in San Diego and I'm looking for a great restaurant to do so at. I'm staying at the Del Coronado Hotel so something close-ish to that would be great, but if not that's fine too.

    Thanks!Restaurant in San Diego?

Hmm Well Downtown is close to the Hotel Del, just across the bay, or across the Coronado bridge. Some restaurants I know of on the island are Peohe's a seafood restaurant: http://www.peohes.com/

and the Boat House Coronado: http://www.coronado-boathouse.com/

Neither of which I'd say are 'Fun' but the food is great and there is a view of course.

Across the bridge in the gaslamp district are all the restaurants!

Mister Tiki's Mai Tai Lounge is a hawaiian theme restaurant, you can order all their drinks virgin.

The Gaslamp Strip Club is a steak restaurant where you have fun cooking your own steak.

There is a Joe's Crab Shack near Seaport Village, it's right on the bay

Have dessert at Ghirardelli's Chocolate Shop! Really good giant sundaes %26amp; more.

What's the best Mexican restaurant in San Diego?

    I have a few favorites.

If you want the best fish tacos anywhere, try The South Beach bar %26amp; Grill on Newport avenue in Ocean Beach. It also has a great location, right on the ocean. However, that's about the only mexican food they have.

In Old Town, Coyote Cafe is my favorite. Lots of freshness, fantastic black bean dishes. SOMETIMES the service is spotty.

For organic, go back to OB and try Rancho's.

For the richest shrimp and cheese quesadillas, try Cotijas (a chain, all over San Diego).

For nice sit-down, with atmosphere, either of the Miguel's, on Scott St in Pt Loma, or on Coronado, is nice. The jalapeno white sauce served with the chips is addictive, and they WILL share the recipe if you ask.

Last but NOT least, for something really interesting and authentic, but expensive, go to Indigo Grill in Little Italy. Chef Debra Scott spent a year in Mexico learning about what REAL mexican cooking is.What's the best Mexican restaurant in San Diego?
    La Pinata in Old Town
old town mexican cafe is affordable and has the best tortillas. What's the best Mexican restaurant in San Diego?
I would have to say Rubios. If you want something faster chipolltle is pritty good too.
    LOLITAS!
I know the answer! Its this little place called Los Cabos in the Del Mar Highlands shopping center in Del Mar. It is absolutely fantastic. The carne asada and chicken are so smokey good and they have great fancy cocktails. Reasonably priced. You have to try it.
I have never been to this particular restaurant but it has good revues.

Roberto's is definitly the best for take-out or casual sit down, everything on the menu is good, large portions and reasonable prices. Stay out of Old Town unless you like tourists and paying over ten bucks for a burrito.

Any restaurants open for (fairly nice) take-out food on Christmas Day in San Diego or North County area?

Your best chance of finding somewhat upscale take-out food on Christmas Day would be to call some of the big hotels nearby and ask if they will do takeout. There just aren't many stand-alone restaurants that are open Christmas Day, but restaurants that are a part of the hotel will usually be open because they have to be prepared to feed guests. I would suggest you call around and see what you can come up with, starting with the nicest big hotels close to where you plan on eating. Good luck!Any restaurants open for (fairly nice) take-out food on Christmas Day in San Diego or North County area?
A friend told me yesterday that Pizza is the most frequently ordered take-out food at Christmas, Chinese is second.
Try Milton's Deli in the Flower Hill Mall (858-792-2225). I bet they're open because it's a Jewish deli. Great deli food! Gargantuan sandwiches! Also they have fabulous Xmas cookies which I sometimes pass off as my own.Any restaurants open for (fairly nice) take-out food on Christmas Day in San Diego or North County area?
Probably (maybe) Jack in the Box.
DZAKINs will be open...see you there!

CITY HEIGHTS, situated 10 minutes southeast from San Diego鈥檚 thriving downtown and new ballpark, is known for its extremely diverse immigrant population and many affordable properties. City Heights is not a good area, has one of the highest crime rates in the San Diego County area. The reason why so many great prices is becase no one wants to live there--unfortunately the diversity in the area hasn't had a good impact. (Sources: I live near there %26amp; my husband is a SDPD.)
