For SAN DIEGO RESIDENTS: What are the best must-do things in San Diego that aren't the typical tourist things

My husband and I are planning a trip to San Diego in the fall of this year. We'll do some of the obvious tourist things like the SD Zoo and Sea World. Do you have any advice regarding the typical tourist things? For instance, is Sea World worth it? Are there specific shows at Sea World that we shouldn't miss?

Also, what are some things that AREN'T typical tourist things that we shouldn't miss? Like incredible hole-in-the wall restaurants.....flea markets that are incredible, shopping that is unique to SD...etc. We're just looking for some local advice. For SAN DIEGO RESIDENTS: What are the best must-do things in San Diego that aren't the typical tourist things
I don't live in San Diego but I live near by and visit at least four times a year. You must go to Balboa Park and the USS Midway. I'd skip the zoo if I was you unless you absolutely love animals. The restaurant in the Japanese Tea Garden in Balboa Park is really good. Also Slices in Escondido is a really good pizza place. Go to Horton Plaza if you like shopping the architecture is really cool. There are a ton of places to shop in San Diego, if you have the time go to every single one. Hope you have a ton of fun!For SAN DIEGO RESIDENTS: What are the best must-do things in San Diego that aren't the typical tourist things
