Where to stay / eat in San Diego area ?

Going to San Diego in April for family vacation. Flying into Carlsbad and out of San Diego. Seeing Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park and Legoland.

Which hotels are safe and reasonably priced? Are there some that are in better areas than others?

Any suggestions for family-friendly restaurants?Where to stay / eat in San Diego area ?
San Diego is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited! The Holiday Inn San Diego on the Bay is a clean and affordable option, especially for traveling families. This hotel is in downtown and most of their rooms feature balconies with views of the Bay or downtown.

Although the hotel is in downtown, the area is pretty safe - within walking distance to the historic Gas Lamp Quarter. You can also rent bikes from the hotel and enjoy the area's wonderful weather! Sea World is only four miles away and they offer a free shuttle to the San Diego Zoo, Seaport Village and Horton Plaza.

Since you are traveling with kids, you can take advantage of their Kids 18 and under Stay and Eat Free program. If you eat in the hotel's designated restaurant - you won't even have to worry about dining expenses for your children! Hope this helps - have a great time
Hotel del Coronado. It is in the City of Coronado but Minutes away from San Diego. Call their number for more info. It is beaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuutiful and was built in the victorian ages. This hotel is very safe in the small town of Coronado minutes away from the Restaurants and Attractions of San Diego. You will have an awesome time there. It was awarded the #1 place to stay.

Little Italy is in the town and has a wide range of places to eat at.

For kids go to 'Corvette' it's a diner and is amazing the staff are super friendly and it's aimed towards kids and fun. When I went I had an awesome bbq burger and strawberry malts, the waitress came and made me a hairstyle out of straws and there was competitions to win t shirts and staff dancing - really cannot rate this place too highly!!!
Embassy Suites and Hampton Inns both feature FREE morning breakfasts as well as evening snacks! Especially with kids, anything FREE is worth checking out. Embassy Suites has kitchenettes too!

You should plan on one "event" per day. As you're probably aware, Legoland is in Carlsbad.

In any hotel, it's wise to get a 2nd floor or higher room for security. Less chance of theft from your room. Just a tip.
Anywhere in Carlsbad is safe to stay and the restaurants are mostly family friendly. It's a big vacation spot.
