San Diego chinese restaurant that taste similar to NYC chinese restaurant?

Ever since we moved from NYC, we've been trying to find a chinese restaurant near Hillcrest that offers food that's similar to the ones back home. Please let us know if you know of any. Thanks. :-)San Diego chinese restaurant that taste similar to NYC chinese restaurant?
I don't know what Chinese stuff is in Hillcrest. However, I eat out a lot, and I love the Dumpling Inn. It's barely 10 minute north of Hillcrest on the 163.

Dumpling Inn (858) 268-9638

4619 Convoy St

San Diego, CA 92111
dumpling Inn is a crap restaurant. The dumplings lack are dry and lacking juicy broth and are inadequately spcied. Please don't go there. Go across the street to Shanghai City. The dumplings are better. they are ok at Shanghai city.

To be honest with you, Hillcrest does not have any good Chinese restaurants. I dont know what NYC Chinese is suppose to taste like but I do know GOOD Chinese food.

Try the following:

Dumpling Inn

4619 Convoy Street

San Diego, CA 92111-2318

858 268 9638

Silver Ark

8993 Mira Mesa Blvd

San Diego, CA 92126

(858) 537-968

Pearl

11666 Avena Place

Rancho Bernardo, CA 92128
I live in Washington, where there are TONS of great chinese restaurants, and travel once a month to San Diego, where there are none. The best, in my mind, is P F Chang's, which is up Rt 5 near UTC.

In Hillcrest, however, there is a fantastic Thai restaurant called Celadon. It's reasonably priced, and some of the best Thai food anywhere. I'd recommend that when in San Diego, stick with Mexican, seafood, and Thai, and save the Chinese ventures for when you're visiting other cities (except for the once-in-a-while visit to PF Chang's)
There is no decent Chinese food in Hillcrest. and the one who mentioned Dumpling Inn, that is a crap restaurant in a crap mini mall. I don't understand why it is so busy. Then again, every mall on Convoy or Clairmont Mesa is a crap mini mall, but that's beside the point.

To be truthfull, there are very few decent Chinese restaurants in San Diego. The few that are decent are

Shanghai City - Shanghai

Ba Ren - Sichuan

Dede's Tea House - Sichuan

Golden City - Cantonese

Chinamax - dimsum

Jade - dimsum

Tea Station - Taiwanese cafe

Chin's Seafood Grill - Zheijiang / Jiangsu style (Mirarmar Mesa, ask for the Chinese menu)

Pearl - Dimsum

and basically, all the rest suck.

I've personally been to all of these except for Pearl and Chinamax.

Many of these you will find here on Kirks food blog

Allow me to rave a little re: Ba Ren. They're on the right side of Diane Avenue, just off Clairemont Mesa Blvd, and are getting lots of buzz. Local Asian-Americans sending friends etc. Really excellent. If you care about this style of eating, you owe this place a visit. Don't expect everyone else's MSG-laden disappointments. Very authentic.
